I love precheck, just because it goes much faster than the regular line and involves less hassle. Or at least it did when I got it a few years back.

Maybe regular flying has become a joy. I dunno.

On rental cars ...

I generally use Enterprise.  They are fine.  This time Delta had "deal" with Payless.  OK, saved $180.  Got a Nissan Sentra with 74K miles and that stupid rubber band transmission.  Not a fan.  The car was "OK" overall, I guess, I never trusted it to stop when needed much.  Usually with Enterprise I get a modest upgrade or three.

On First Class ...

Not worth it obviously.  We were upgraded going out, which is "nice", breakfast was decent.  I looked at paying for the upgrade, it was $329 EACH.  Not a chance.  Coming back we were in "Comfort Plus", I dunno about the plus.  It's fine, a bit more leg room and recline.  I'm willing to pay some more for that.

On "Premiium" ... found generally on overseas flights.  It's nicer of course, but also pricey.  I upgraded us coming back from Seoul to DFW and I guess that was worth it, my wife liked it.

On Delta One ... We had this once because the flight from here to Seattle was that sort of aircraft, just came in from Rio.  I spent a lot of time playing with the gadgets.  That was our only experience with it for obvious reasons.  If a Comfort seat to say Paris is $1600, Delta One might be $7500.  Each.

Hertz exclusively for me. American partners with Avis, National and Budget, I think. They all suck.

Avis for me. Corporate rate (even for non-corporate travel) so I simply can't beat it trying to look elsewhere.

Bad experience with Avis.

We get corporate with Enterprise. No thank you.

Hertz only.

When I was working, we had to use National, and I had multiple bad experiences with them.  I've also seen an incredibly bad experience at Hertz in Paris, but that was in Paris, they were totally ripping off three Americans who didn't understand what was afoot.  My wife's company used Hertz.

One can have a bad experience with any of them of course.  Enterprise has bailed me out a few times, and I've avoided any bad experiences with them, so far.  The Payless rental was "fine" in the sense nothing bad happened, they were efficient getting me the car and on return, but I wouldn't use them again because their cars are old.

My wife complained to Delta about our video screens flying out, they were glitchy.  Delta gave us both 2,000 miles, which of course is a "go away nicely" statement.  We both like Delta pretty well, which is good considering where we reside.

Hertz' cars are all relatively new. I think the most miles I've seen in the past 4 years has been 15K? It's normally under 10K.

I like that.

Yeah, I was pretty much 100% Delta when I lived there. When I moved back, the areas I had to travel for work were largely served best by American and Southwest, so that's where I gravitate towards.

I've also always been a Hilton guy, but my wife prefers Marriott properties. After the trips to Indianapolis followed by the one to Phoenix, she's said "no more" on Hilton lol. The quality of the properties we stay at just seems to be absolutely hit and miss. This past weekend was even a Doubletree, and it looked like it hadn't been touched since 1974.

That's the big difference I think between Payless/Thrifty et al. and National/Hertz/Avis/Enterprise.  The latter has newer vehicles.

It makes sense of course.  Given a choice between a newer vehicle that cost $550 and a Nissan Sentra that has 74 K on the clock for $320, I might think about it, but it was for a week, so not much of a bother really.

They all do a lot better now with returns than they did 30 years ago.

On hotels, I check the age of the property if I can.  A new Hampton Inn is often better than an aged Hilton.  I don't see much real difference in the major brands overall.  I'm a Hilton Diamond member so that helps with them.

We stay at IHG hotels in Europe fairly often, I have some status with them.

We're Hilton people, but only with newer properties (like you with Marriott, which has some shitty properties too).

Hampton or Blue is our choice generally, when we travel in the states. Hilton Garden sometimes. No Embassy or Doubletree.

No resorts.

if there is that much consternation between hotels, rental cars and airlines and all the other stuff..........

I'd rather just go cheap on the few times I travel and cut down on travel overall and skip the BS

I just go cheap and understand there's going to be BS to deal with at that price

seems better than trying to figure out which one to pay more that isn't going to really add enough value

I guess I'm just lucky not to travel that often and have to put up with the BS

I just booked an 8 day trip to Sedona, in August.  My wife wanted to go somewhere.

And she wants to tour Antelope Canyon.
