There are some areas in the "middle" that are nice, but I prefer the coasts, and in particular the West coast.

We could probably live on the East Coast near your area @Honestbuckeye but man once you get South of there into Palm Beach the traffic is horrendous. Especially in the season. And the further South you go, it gets even worse.
Very true

I actually prefer that coast as well.  The shallow side.

another reason to prefer the west side is that is the I 75 corridor in many of the folks over there or from the Midwest. Generally speaking warm and friendly people.
On my side it’s the I 95 corridor so many of the people are from the north east and they have a different way about them. I will just say they’re not exactly warm or friendly.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

We've noticed that too.

Definitely more and more moving over here from the NE. On the East coast it's either impossible to find anything, or it's uber expensive.

We looked at some places near and in Jacksonville that were reasonably priced back in the day.  I think as you go south from there it gets pricier.  We looked at a nice condo on the 24th floor in Jax with great views and a good price but the area around it was not very welcoming.  We looked at a 3,000 sf new house in Nokatee that was under $400 K, 7 miles from the beach.

The Northern Palm Beach County line changes some things, but the Big Money really starts at about the middle of PBC.

We looked at Palm Beach Gardens in the N PBC and it was affordable for us. Close to the Intracoastal too. We have friends over there that we visit.

We simply chose to be over here, and we had our reasons.

More of a Midwest vibe. Generally calmer seas. Less traffic. My boat is on-demand just 1.5 miles from my front door. We can be in the Gulf in 20 minutes if we choose. 8 couples from our dock in Kenosha moved here (built-in friends off the bat). Our German friends moved over here from Pembroke Pines.

Pontoon boat and condo on Torch Lake in August this year.
I was just talking with my nephew yesterday that is looking to rent an AirB&B there in the next few weeks. Gorgeous area.

On the job in the Bay Area this week.

Continuing my stay in the Bay Area, spent last Sunday in Oakland. Haven’t visited a city with more graffiti than Oakland. There’s garbage most everywhere, and you can bet the RVs you see aren’t vacationers, but rather unfortunate curbside squatters:

Along with more homeless encampments along and beneath the freeways (photos taken from the BART light-rail):

My wife and daughter are 7 days into a 12 day trip in Europe that will take them through Ireland, Germany, Poland, The Czech Republic, and Austria.  After talking to them this evening I think they are both ready to come home.  It’s an educational trip through the school system and everything is busy and on a schedule.

They are finding out a trip and a vacation aren’t necessarily the same thing.  The one place my wife really wanted to visit was Auschwitz but my daughter got a bug or something and was throwing up all day so they had to sit that one out yesterday.  She is better now and they were in Prague today.  They both sound exhausted. Lol.

That's too many countries with too little time. Each of those places is worthy of 12 days alone..

I think for a younger person, such a hectic trip can be useful.  I agree any major European city needs at least a week to scratch the surface.  And the older you are, the more down time you will need of course.
