I realize it is June and it wasn't by choice, but I had to spend the last week in FL (AAU volleyball tournament) and it certainly reaffirmed my dislike of Florida.   Just not my cup of tea.  Yes, there are some really nice lodging properties, but just can't embrace it.  (has nothing to do with red state/blue state bulljive).

I'll be in Florida on Tuesday.  Bech resort/yacht club near Pensacola.  My sister lived there for almost ten years and I love those white sand beaches.

We'll be stopping in New Orleans for a few days on the way home, which I might be even more excited about.

Not sure if you are into oysters- there are some great oyster bars there!

Where in Florida?
It wasn't as if this particular visit was some straw breaking back on my views of FL, just reaffirmation.
Most of this past week I was in Orlando (where the Natl tournament is each year).  I would never in my life visit FL by choice in June-Sept.    we also spent some time in Cocoa Beach/Cape etc.    Last year we spent time in Clearwater and Tampa.  I think Destin is about the only area of FL I haven't been to that I might try sometime.

I don't mean to bash up on FL here.  Climate simply isn't my type.  Not my type of nature/terrain/landscape.  I loathe bermuda grass for golf.  I find the golf courses remarkably indistinguishable.  Cactus League trips are superior to Grapefruit League.  I'm also completely uninterested in the entire theme park scene.    That said, Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, One Ocean (both near Jax), Ritz in Key Biscayne and JW Marriott at Marco are all fabulous properties.

Yeah, everyone knows Orlando sucks.
You need to spend some time in the Keys, lol.
You'd die living in Gainesville.  No seabreeze, 95% humidity....at football practice, my hightop cleats would be heavy and wet by the end of warm-ups.
Some people don't like an 8-hour sauna all summer, lol.

Clearwater Beach is really nice.

Sarasota is very nice. Lido Beach Resort is a great place to stay there.

We stayed two nights in Clearwater Beach on the way back from baseball two years ago.  That was in January of course, it seemed OK to me, I don't care to go back.  I kept looking for a good "real" seafood restaurant with no luck.  I lean to funky mom and pop places on the coast with their own fleet.

Beach resorts nowadays often are too developed for my quaint tastes, places like Biarritz etc.

Yeah, not interested in FL for that reason specifically.

All true of course.

Remember- I came to Florida in early 16 having been recruited for my job.

Can’t lie- was tired of the long and bitter Michigan winters.

It’s great here January thru May.  Warm, not particularly humid.  Golf, fish, bbq, beach etc.

But once you get to mid June- it is miserable due to oppressive humidity.

That’s why I look forward to a week in Northern Michigan ( summer and fall there are spectacular) every year- plus my annual golf trip up there in September w boys from HS.

Also- aside from coastal areas which are mostly beautiful- Florida is ugly and no the least bit scenic.

There are some areas in the "middle" that are nice, but I prefer the coasts, and in particular the West coast.

We could probably live on the East Coast near your area @Honestbuckeye but man once you get South of there into Palm Beach the traffic is horrendous. Especially in the season. And the further South you go, it gets even worse.

Last year we did 5 weeks in Kenosha WI and that was too long to be away by about 4 weeks. So this year we are going for 3 trips at one week each. July 2, August 6 and September 3.
