A very weird thing in Istanbul airport, we flew there from Athens, Greece to change planes.  So, we get to our gate to ATL, and the seating area is inside a glassed in room.  And we had to pass FIVE security checks to enter said room.  Five.  The first four checked our documents, same thing each time, the last one opened our carry ons, wanded us, hand searched our bodies, I had to take my head phones from around my neck and the lens off my camera.  My Turkish friend tells me this is quasi-normal and very silly.  We had already passed security in Athens of course.

I know the gate agents check passports obviously, fine, but four times?  How they loaded the plane was weird as well and it was a 787-900.

It's not a trip I would take, to be honest, but it's still fun to read about it here.

A dream cruise for me would be to start in South Korea, then Taiwan, and then hit Japan intensively.
I highly recommend Taiwan. Over the years I've spent the equivalent of about 4 weeks in Taipei and it's one of my favorite places. It's a bit of a melting pot of cultures and it just adds to the richness of the place. And the food is amazing

I definitely want to make a trip to Japan as well...

awesome stuff here, thanks for posting.  Not sure if you have hit Normandy yet, but that is a must.  Barcelona is one of my favorites.

This is what most of the Old City of Jerusalem looked like to me:

I agree, I've been several times including the Utah Beach area.  Bayeux was a great visit.

The first time I went, we did go to a night market. I didn't try the stinky tofu, but I did try the oyster omelet. One bite, nearly hurled, threw it away.

On return trips I never had a group that wanted to check out the night market, so didn't get the stinky tofu.

If anyone wants to do some cooking, give this a shot though. https://thewoksoflife.com/taiwanese-beef-noodle-soup-instant-pot/

So, upon reflection, would I like to return anywhere I visited?  Perhaps Athens, though probably not enough to do it.  My wife tells me there is much more to see in Egypt, OK, but I don't care to revisit what we did see.  I'm not too keen on Egypt in general really.  Petra?  No, though I would like to have had the time to see more of it when we were there.  Dubai?  No.  Istanbul?  Yes, but this is because I only was in the airport and saw a bit out the plane windows.

Next up is a cruise around England, mostly stopping in Scotland and Ireland, it seemed like a convenient way to spot check those areas.  I am looking at something in Asia fairly seriously for 2024, and there is one out of Buenos Aires that looks neat.  Our neighbor wants to go to South Africa, not for a cruise, and my best friend in Cincy was born there and would go with us.  We met some folks who boarded  the cruise 16 days earlier in Capetown, plus the 18 days we spent aboard.  Yikes.  Our cruise alone cost over $28 K, we did have a nice cabin.  And I spent a good bit on excursions (and some jewelry ...).

Sounds like a great down-payment on a Porche.

Use it to drive around the USA spot checking places

What's a Porche?

I'd rather have this.
