Michigan has two in the portal so far, might be a whole lot more.

P Will Hart and OL Zach Carpenter.

MSU OL Devontae Dobbs in the portal. He joins his former Belleville/MSU teammate Julian Barnett.

I presume the NCAA will liberalize the 85 scholly rule at some point.  We have FNGs coming in promised Schollys, we have fifth year guys who like college staying, and bound to be a LOT of folks portalizing.  Presuming MOST of these are not All American types, will they land a spot somewhere?

5th year players will not count against scholarship limits in Fall 21 if they stay at their current school. If they transfer, they WILL count as one of the 85.

Ah, thanks, had not seen that.  So, these portal players are running a real risk.

MSU OL Devontae Dobbs in the portal. He joins his former Belleville/MSU teammate Julian Barnett.
And CB Davion Williams.  All 3 2018 Belleville kids gone.  Which on one hand is weird, on the other hand, they couldn't even get on the field.

MSU has added Temple grad transfer QB Anthony Russo, and 2018 4* RB Harold Joiner from Auburn.  Sounds like they may be adding a TE from UL Monroe too, and possibly a LB from USC.

Barnett and Dobbs are a curious case. Both those guys can definitely play. I wouldn’t be against Michigan pursuing either one. I’d love to have Dobbs actually. Get as many talented OL as you can. Dobbs best fit might even be at DT. He was an ultra athletic big man in HS.

Michigan added OL Willie Allen and sounds like they are going after the LB from Western Mich Treshaun Hayward. Hayward was a consensus All-American in 2019 I believe.

That’s the only names I’ve heard so far, but I’m sure they’ll be trying to add more. DT and CB is a huge pressing need.

I wonder if Jalen Mayfield sticks around for 2021. Michigan barely played any games this year and Mayfield just about missed them all. Can’t imagine his draft stock is super high. Willie Allen could help be a huge shot in the arm at one of the guard spots if Mayfield comes back. I might actually like Michigan’s OL in 2021 if Mayfield returns.

Ya this would be the year to see some snaps in EL if you can play

i dont think they do expand the 85  while this years seniors wont count towards that 85 if they return the following years the seniors will.  so in reality there will be a log jam of players in the freshman year next year potentially partials from 3 classes
RS+ covid Freshmen
2nd year Freshmen
true Freshmen

lots of freshmen going to make it interesting especially with a liberal transfer policy

its a wait and see thing!

Jeslord Boateng and Rocky Lombardi join him.  Lombardi was obvious.  I'm a little bummed about Boateng, I liked him, but the obvious issue this year of fitting Dantonio's style of linebacker into a 2 LB scheme was glaring.  He and Harvey could have been studs, but they just don't cover the field enough in this scheme.

MSU adds All-Sun Belt OT Jarrett Horst over Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida State.  The program has done a 180 in strategy.  We'll see if it works
