Hell- even when I first got out of undergrad and started my career- all I could afford were cheap 2-year leases.

Then, my wife was a Chrysler exec. So I got new cars but they were discounted lease for- you guessed it, 2 years.

My only deep experience with cars being reliable into the deep miles is what I see from friends, family and work buddies.
Based on that- I haven't seen a pattern with any brand.

I keep cars for a long time, usually 10 years or more. I've noted that Honda was head-and-shoulders above everyone else in reliability.

Beyond that, everything is pretty much the same. Over the past 40 or so years my family and I have owned 3 MOPAR, 2 Chevy, and 2 Fords (not counting the two new Mustangs which are too young to be considered).

Oh, and then the Toyota, which is the biggest piece of unreliable shit on the planet, so much worse than the two 80s Chryslers, which is shocking.

Oh and my best friend has had terrible luck with several Saabs and a couple of Volkswagens in a row. It's funny how people just can't let go of their biases, he'll insist that those Volkswagens are sturdy, reliable cars full of excellent German engineering. But I'm the one who has repeatedly helped him get them to and from the shop, and the repair bills are definitely higher than American cars.

He has a GMC pickup that he's had zero problems with, and yet when it came time to buy his 16yo son a new car, he absolutely refused to look at anything American, and instead bought a gently used Golf hatchback. That is now having transmission issues.

My wife only wants Hondas or Toyotas now. I just got rid of a Hyundai after 17 years with no major problems save for an electrical recall at one point. I talked to her about getting her one when the time comes for her to be done with her Honda. Nope, she doesn't like Hyundai. Can't even tell me why, the answer is just no. Accord, Camry, or bust.

They're good cars, but since I've been old enough to remember, their seats are uncomfortable for me. We can't take any trips in her car because it kills my lower back. Short trips, I don't notice anything. Anything over about 30-40 minutes, I'm in a bind. My mom's Accord in the 90's did me the same way.

I didn’t include my cars from high school in the first two years after when I went to Knight school and worked converting apartments into condominiums. This was before I went away to school and didn’t have a car in school

I had an old mercury Capri, 1969 Chevy Chevelle wagon, an old Pontiac Lemans, on Oldsmobile 98, one of those old Ford stepside pick up trucks and several other cars too. they were all falling apart, but each one of them had 100,000 miles on them before I ever bought them.😂
