My next door neighbor growing up was a bit of a car guy, in addition to the 280ZX, he also had one of these.  Sporty.

Yeah that one was a 450SL.  I don't know the exact year, probably 79 or 80.

His son was one of my friends, he was two years older and we hung out for a few months per year because his mom lived in Dallas.

His dad let me drive it a couple of times.  It was fun.  Until fairly recently, the fastest I've ever driven, was in that car.

Yeah, it's the Formula 1 version of a pace car.  F1 is currently using two different makes, and alternating each race.  This is the other one:
