Back in the 80's I thought all the louvres so many rear windows had looked cool.  Now I see them and think I'd hate what it must do to the visibility.

Yeah mine didn't actually have the louvers, just a black-out tinted rear window.  I've never driven a car with louvers, that I can recall.  I do think they look cool, especially on some specific models and years.

The one I had briefly lifted out of the way easily.

Oh yeah that's right.  My brother's Camaro had louvers and you could easily unlatch them, lift to clean, and then latch it back.

I drove that car and don't recall visibility being an issue.  You can look directly backwards and see through the slats.  If you were in the rear trying to look up, you wouldn't be able to see, but that's not really an issue anyway.

The sportiest car I've ever owned was the GTI.  Manual tranny, plenty of power (for me), good mpgs, good handling, little understeer.  Those hot hatches combine a lot of fun with a practical design.  Second would probably be the 2005 CTS, good power, RWD which led to some oversteer at times, automatic tranny, good handling.

I've driven sports cars, Porsche 924 included, a Ferrari, Mustangs of various ilks including the "II", a CTS-V on a track (that really is a sports sedan of course), an Austin Healey (I barely fit), probably a few others.  I think my sports car days are well in the rear now though at times I muse about a Mustang GT convertible with a 6 spd.
