your Father bought you a car?!?!?
I knew some kids like that - lucky!

Twice!

The Crown Vic, iirc, was a few thousand dollars.  The Escort had a sticker price right under 13k, not sure what he actually paid for it.  I wasn't with him when he bought it and I got no say in the matter either time.  He didn't take the sticker off before driving it home, so that's how I know what it was.  12.9k, or whatever it was just sounds crazy today.

He had a really nice Chevy pickup at the time, which he sold to buy me that car.  Got himself an older Ford.  Even back then I knew how much that had to hurt because he was not a Ford guy.

I had to pay my insurance, but yes, I was lucky, even if those cars weren't sporty or cool.  That Escort lasted me 9 years during which time I put a ton of miles on it.  By the time I bought a vehicle the first time I was out of school and had a good job.  Thanks, dad!

Obviously not "sporty" in any sense but I could see cruising the town in this one.  I had a GF who had a Ford Galaxie convertible and it was great for such things.  She was pretty good at other things too.

Parking lots and roundabouts and drive throughs and parking garages and home garages would be problematic.

I have driven one, not the covertible version, but my ex's grandmother had one that color and age.  It was rather massive.

But so are Escalades today I suspect.

I've driven one too. Massive and clumsy. Steering sucked. 18.5 feet long.

Escalade is a foot shorter but handles very well.

We have very tight roundabouts here and nobody knows how to drive them (except me).

The Suburban measures 225 inches in length, while the Expedition Max is approximately 221.9 inches long.  I dunno why we aren't metric.

I think 225 inches is nearly 19 feet long.

Suburban is longer than an Escalade (Tahoe size).

Yup, but there is the longer Escalade version as well.  Anyway, they are enormous, to me.

While both are large three-row SUVs, the 2024 Cadillac Escalade ESV is the longer of the two body sizes available, coming in at 227 inches in length. The Escalade, meanwhile, comes in at 211.9 inches in length and is slightly taller than the Escalade ESV.

Interesting. They did away with the longer one a while back. Did not know it was back again. Of course, I don't much follow US car brands.

I think the extended Escalade has always been around as an option, like the Suburban over the Tahoe.  But I don't follow that segment either.

I see them often here as livery vehicles parked in a lot we pass on walks.  I often see 2-3 in the same lot, parked, engine running, driver inside dressed in black, looking at phone.

Chevy has the Tahoe and Suburban
Cadillac has the Escalade and Escalade ESV
GMC has the Yukon and Yukon XL

I'm not aware of the longer versions of any of them being discontinued and then resumed in recent years.

Might have been just chatter about it. I don't care, honestly, because I'll never have one.

I'd just buy a Suburban if I wanted a vehicle that size.

They're all the same.  The Caddy has slightly different bodywork along the front and rear, and nicer trim packages of course.

If they made a Suburban-sized SUV with the kind of towing capability my pickup has, I'd trade for it in an instant.  Alas they do not.
