well, you're certainly not past the vehicle's limit

maybe right there, but.........

Exactly.  If you take a car to its top speed, that’s a limit.  If you corner it to the point it swings out either the front or back end, that’s at or past the limit.  If you brake from 100 mph to measure the braking distance- that’s the limit.  If you launch it repeatedly from a standstill until you have maxed out the 0-60 or 1/4 mile time, that’s the limit.

if you use your cars lap timer and hit a curvy road, time it, and push the car until you can’t improve the time, all with traction control turned all the way off, that’s the limit.

you know quickly what the cars limits are.

So, for example, the BMW M440i I just got for my wife, has already been tested for 0-60 and 1/4 mile, as well as top speed.  And - tested in different DAs ( density altitude - which has a major impact on a vehicle’s performance - especially a forced induction car).

Now we are going to get it tuned with a high flow downpipe.  That should add roughly 100 WHP and WTQ.  Then we will run it again see what gains are had in real driving.    I will post a video

Haven't pushed it near limits on the curves— YET.

Few of us really explore the limits of our cars.
We take our Jeep offroading fairly frequently.  I'm not sure we're exploring the limits of the car, but I've definitely explored my limits as a driver.  The vehicle is far more capable than I am. :)

I miss my Jeep so much.

Every clean truck/jeep is a tragedy.  USE THEM!  Otherwise, get a go-cart, lol.

Why does a chicken coop have 2 doors?

Because if it had four doors it would be a chicken sedan.

I used to do all of that. I don't even take my current car to its limit, mostly due to how people drive around here, to be honest.

I've had

Cutlass with a 455
Formula with a 400
Regal T-Type 231 turbo (couldn't afford a Grand National, or even find one)
Porsche 944 Turbo 2.5L turbo
Porsche 928 S (don't remember the power)
Volvo 850 turbo (don't remember the power - inline 5)
M-B E350 AMG enhanced - 3.5L (current car)

I've maxed them all except the latest. I suspect it would top out around 150 or so?? Don't know.

The Porsche 944 Turbo was the fastest of all of the above. I had her up to 160 on I-90.

Nice list of rides!  Maybe someday I’ll list the ones I’ve had just in the last 20 years, but it would only confirm what you all already know about me in terms of cars and that I am nuts.

here in Florida I have to drive about 25 minutes out to the boonies to find roads that you can test top speed, 0 to 60, and quarter miles  We usually do that early on Saturday or Sunday morning.
On the way, there’s a couple nice curvy roads that you can push the handling limits.

In Michigan I went to either Milan drag way or Lapeer drag way 8-10 times a year.  Plus I have driven Monticello a few times on private invites, MIS in Michigan and Chicagoland Speedway.  Included in several of those were laps with a pro where they teach you ( while you are driving) how to push the car and optimize lap times.  So fun.

I was curious and gonna ask if you were at the track or not but didn't know if you wanted to reveal the answer

The tracks here are too crowded. I used to go to Milan or Lapeer and get 5-7 runs in, during a 2 hour visit.

At the track here in Florida ( Palm Beach- now closed anyway ) you could wait 3 hours just for one pass down the track.  No thanks.  The one good thing about going to the track is they put the sticky glue around the start area so you get a much better launch because your tires stick

Fearless, you have nice empty roads near you.    You should buy a Dragy For your Vette( the device in your car that will tell you 0 to 60 times, quarter mile, etc.)

Here is a screenshot of a run in my Audi SQ8:

never had a car on a track or the strip
tried the dragstrip a few times on bikes back in my 20s

don't feel it needed with a bone stock C8
if I was doing mods looking for more and more performance it would be a good gauge

did a few seasons of 2-wheel dr pickup pulling back in my 20s - pullin wheelies with a pickup is good clean fun

$180 is much cheaper than the upgrade to the performance data & video recorder $7K

mine will measure 0-60 time  - maybe 0-100 - not 1/4 mile
