The tires on that car are the least of his concerns. You should be able to put a set of tires (all 4) on there for $500-600. It's nothing like putting tires on a truck.

We owned a 2016 Camry from 2016-2024. ~130k miles, very solid car. No issues with anything really. Regular oil changes, change tires every 30-50K. I honestly can't think of anything else we did to it. It was totaled in a wreck on 12/31/2024 when somebody side swiped my wife passing. Not heavily damaged, just more than it was worth. Insurance gave us like $12-13K for the car, I was happy.

I would only be concerned that it sat for too long and not used. If it was driven somewhat regularly, even even a few times a month, no worries. If it sat for years and years I'd be concerned.

I helped change a tire on my buddy's suburban a few weeks ago. on the side of I-29 in South Dakota
It wasn't pleasant and would have been too much for most women.
but, I grew up changing tires - heck, back in the day, steel belted radial tires hadn't been invented

Yeah, but with you and your Buddy there, the population of South Dakota moved up to 5.

It'd be a bit different if I were stopped on the side of I-10 in Houston with 4 million angry SUVs blowing by me.

Actually, that happened to me about 20 years ago. Pulled a flat right at the cloverleaf ramp east intersection of I-10 and the 610 loop in Houston. Managed to make it from the leftmost lane across six lanes of traffic to stop, got halfway through changing the tire on the shoulder when I remembered my uncle runs a giant truck driving school right near there. I called him, he said the place was less than a mile from there and to sit tight. He came and picked me up, they had a tire shop on campus and patched my tire so I didn't have to use a donut or swing by a tire shop, and sent me on my way.

What luck. I didn't even have a cell phone at the time. I just happened to have borrowed a family member's phone and was able to call him.

Anyway, thanks for the weigh-ins. Dealership is close to here, I might go by on my lunch break tomorrow and see if they have any info about how it was stored and if it was occasionally driven or not.

And see if I can get them down to the middle of the range the kbb suggests. It's listed about a thousand outside the high side of the kbb value.

The last time I tried to negotiate with a Toyota dealership, they refused and told me they didn't budge from MSRP because they sold every car on the lot. That was a different time, though.

luckily the Suburban had a full size spare that got him back to Fargo, about 200 miles
he needed a new tire or 2, maybe 4. Hit some debris on the road and cut the sidewall - no patch
He is a younger guy and did the heavy lifting - the old guy figured out how to get the jack out of the compartment and the heavy thinking
he was going to call for help - would have taken hours

Michelin started selling radials in '48

But their patent kept it a European car thing for way too long a time.

first set I rode on was my grandpa's new 1971 Buick - sounded like they were slapping every crease in the highway

I think it's usually about $180 per on my Hyundai....have generally put Yokohama's on it, which I think are lower end. But, they may not be as common a size as the Camry.....wouldn't know. I didn't even realize common sizes were cheaper, but I guess that makes sense.

I'm trying to remember how much tires cost me back when I drove the Great White (a bigass truck, that was white). It was considerably more, iirc.

I paid $765 for a 60,000 mile set of 4 on my Impala last fall - that's out the door - mounted, balanced, alignment, tax

Yokohamas are good. There are much lower-end tires out there (that are still just fine).
