The Crown Vic, iirc, was a few thousand dollars. The Escort had a sticker price right under 13k, not sure what he actually paid for it. I wasn't with him when he bought it and I got no say in the matter either time. He didn't take the sticker off before driving it home, so that's how I know what it was. 12.9k, or whatever it was just sounds crazy today.
He had a really nice Chevy pickup at the time, which he sold to buy me that car. Got himself an older Ford. Even back then I knew how much that had to hurt because he was not a Ford guy.
I had to pay my insurance, but yes, I was lucky, even if those cars weren't sporty or cool. That Escort lasted me 9 years during which time I put a ton of miles on it. By the time I bought a vehicle the first time I was out of school and had a good job. Thanks, dad!
