There are good deals on them right now.  Prices are way down from a couple of years ago.  My daughter's isn't a GT of course, she didn't want a car that was too fast and I didn't want to pay any more insurance than I had to.

But I'm always looking, and of course we're car-shopping for the boy right now.  He doesn't love Mustangs like his sister (and dad), but he does love anything with a V8.  Of course, those are all out of the question.  The insurance cost for something like that on a 16yo boy is... staggering.
Yeah, insurance on a 2003 Toyota Highlander for a 17yo boy is up there... Can't imagine what a RWD V8 sporty car would run...

The boy was talking small trucks again this morning.  This seems sporty...

I rather like the smaller trucks.  I even sorta like the Hyundai toy truck, but I don't think it's really that practical.

My neighbor had an ancient S-10 I'd borrow to get a load of mulch and whatnot, very handy, very basic, good neighbor.

He has no interest in SUVs which I think is interesting.  He's definitely all about the sportscars, or a truck for practicality.

They were incapable of fixing their poor product. To me that's deeper than what you are suggesting. It's poor product quality as well as incapable service.

From what you're describing, I'm guessing something went seriously wrong somewhere in the manufacturing process of that particular car.  If the flaw was inherent to design (I'm not sure how that happens for a unit, but I don't know much about car manufacturing), that would probably be beyond the capability of most mechanics.  Most of their capabilities peak at fixing something that's gone wrong with a well-constructed vehicle.  They won't be able to diagnose or address any fundamental problem, and that goes for any dealership's mechanics.  Sounds like your car was trash from the get-go, so I'm not surprised they couldn't fix it.  I'd say I'm a little surprised they didn't offer a better solution sooner, but then, I'm sure they were confident, at least for a while, that they could get to the bottom of something and fix it.  By the time they would realize they can't, you've already been left stranded a few times and don't want a replacement.

Whatever the explanation, that was highly unfortunate.  Major catastrophes notwithstanding, there's very little worse than a car breaking down and getting stranded.

Well ultimately he will have to pick one or the other.  As awesome as these were, we're not buying him one of these...
