Just keeping this thread alive ... I was pondering today our new car, the Hyundai Tuscon, after a few months of ownership.
The appeal of the CUV concept is pretty obvious, for a lot of folks, visibility is better than you get in a sedan, I think one feels safer by sitting up high, even if technically you probably aren't safer. Braking and acceleration are fine, I don't drive hard much any more, it doesn't sound strained at 80 mph on the freeway, it merges into traffic well enough, a few times I've punched it a little an it goes when urged. The regen braking is seemless, as is when it operates in all electric mode (which isn't much) and shifts to the engine starting up.
I tossed it a little when we were in the mountains and it handled curves well, it doesn't tip or squeal (short of really getting into it).
Relative to back seat room, it is quite a bit better than the GTI, and the space behind the seat is pretty ample for a smaller vehicle. Gas mileage has been good but it's below the 38/37 mpg they have on the sticker.
One thing that surprised me is hoq quiet it is on the freeway and around town. Overall, it's fine for an old geezer like me.
I still watch reviews at times of Corvettes and Porsches and Cadillacs and think "Wow, that would be neat to have.", but no.
