Chevrolet has announced its intention to end production of the Malibu sedan, leaving the Corvette as the only "car" remaining in Chevy's vehicle lineup.

The Malibu was selling "OK".  They needed the space, they say, and I suspect for higher profit margin SUVs, though part will be for an EV.

I test drove an Impala back in 2016 for a day.  We drove it a bit on the freeway, it was like a boat, my wife did not like it.  It had a lot of room.

I like my 2017 Impala

plenty of room for a traveling salesman and golf clubs

305hp and 28 mpg

don't think there's an SUV that can match it.

Going to a convention in Fargo Sunday.  Golf tournament on Monday.

It had a huge trunk and a lot of rear seat room of course.  Acceleration was adequate.  I think maybe a hybrid midsized SUV could match some of its qualities, but cost more.

I understand the SUV phenomon a bit better now that we have one, though I still think station wagons would be better overall.  My wife really likes the Tuscon.

I was driving it in the mountains and the computer showed 39.3 mpg, which is unusual.  On a freeway, mileage is very dependent on speed.  If I drive closer to 70 mph, it will get 33-34 mpg, but if I push to 80, it drops to 28-30.  And around town it often shows 35-37 mpg.

Chevrolet's 409 V8 engine was introduced in 1961 as part of the W-series of engines, which were designed to meet the company's future needs. The 409 was available in passenger cars, drag racers, and stock cars, with the Impala SS being the most popular model. The 409 had a bore of 4.3125 inches and a stroke of 3.5 inches, and was rated at 360 horsepower. The 409 engine inspired a song

Saw one of these on the road yesterday coming back from my crown appointment. It was this color too. Different plate though (no front plates in Florida).

That was 360 brake horsepower using a more liberal method than current SAE net horsepower.

It probably was nearer 260 SAE net hp.
