It diminished kidney function where the kidneys are operating between 50-60% (I think. All I know is mine are around 55%). The doctor's tell me I am in stage 2.

I stand corrected. I just googled it and Stage 2 is a GFR rating of 60-89%. I am in Stage 3, 30-59%. Maybe I should do a better job of listening to my doctor. ~???
Best wishes. I hope things continue to improve for you.

I have a thing for what whiskey snobs will say is an abomination, but I love Skewball whiskey.  It is peanut butter flavored.

Drop a shot of that in a chocolate porter.  It's delicious.

Yuengling makes a Hershey's Chocolate Porter that pairs well with it, although it's hard to find.

if anyone likes mint chocolate, try a 1-1 ratio of peppermint schnapps and kahlua. not my thing but tastes just like those little chocolates at restaurants.

My buddy got married at Buffalo Trace, and they were serving Sazerac's at the reception.

I really like Bulleit Rye, and generally really like Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, and Maker's Mark. Those are all pretty much just served on the rocks. I take scotch neat, and like speyside varieties but don't have a specific go-to.

Other than that, the occasional Gin & Tonic or Bloody Mary are nice.

I drink seasonally in Florida.  I love Irish whiskey, but it gets too hot down here to drink regularly.

Summer is usually vodka.  Mixed with lemonade, tonic, or something of that nature.  There is a distillery in St Pete that makes a good vodka called Banyan Reserve.  I prefer that. Tito's is fine with me as well.  Another good Florida vodka is Monkey In Paradise.

For summer beers, I usually go with German or Belgian wheats.  Franziskaner, Weihenstephaner, Hoegaarden.  I'll drink any of the local craft beers as well.

We started drinking a lot more tequila this past summer.  Typically shots of a blanco.  Haven't found a favorite yet.

Winter is when I break out the whiskey.  Redbreast 15 and Yellow Spot are both delicious.  Jameson is usually my go to cheaper booze.  I recently started drinking Slane, it's excellent.  I prefer it over Jameson.

Will break out the darker beers in winter as well.  Lagers, octoberfests, pumpkins, etc.

It's a cocktail.  I prefer mine with rye.
Rye and cognac/brandy that actually sounds enticing the Rye would balance the sweetness I'd imagine.

bottled in bond is pretty good for cheap. angels envy is my go to. i like scotches as well, and single malt is way to go, but i've been mostly bourbon drinking for a few years now.

i also like tequila, doesn't give me headaches like some of the others.

Being in stage 2 renal failure, I have had to cut back on my consumption of alcohol. However, I will still enjoy a Makers Mark and Ginger Ale on occasion as an after dinner drink. I prefer Makers Mark 46,
Damn good luck with that NOB,best wishes on a full recovery.FWIW I like Maker's as it is wheated
Wonder how many folks here have had any of Weller's selections.I know it's more available in Texas but not cheap if you can find it up here.

For a guy who doesn't drink regularly you seem to have a portfolio pegged.Like that wheat line up

Marzens/FestBiers are my faves throw in the Vienna Lagers as they are along the same lines only a little lighter and not quite as malty

I found an unopened six pack of beer in cans sitting behind some stuff in my house yesterday

Its got to be at least 4 years old

because it was in my house it remained at aprox 70 degrees

will it still be good or will it not be fit to drink

I honestly dont know cause no six pack owned by me ever survived that long before untouched

They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.

It won't kill you.

It might not taste all that good after 4 years. Very few beers are really designed to live that long. Freshness is important for flavor.

But there should be nothing dangerous about it.
