Doesn't matter one iota. If you're "ranked", you shouldn't be underdogs to an unranked team who's on no one's radar.

Rankings shouldn't come out until week 4, at least, with last year's consideration as an indicator. 

Playoff rankings do little to help, when Clemson can be ranked #1, and run through a weak ACC unscathed to the championship.

Maryland just dismantled the ACC's #2 team. Clemson, once again, has a clear path, and can then recruit pitch how easy it is to make it to the playoffs.

rankings can be different than power index 
rankings, especially the playoff committee poll shouldn't come out until the 9th or 10th week

The ACC really sucks. Probably the weakest of the P5 - PAC included.

They were last year too. 
Helps Clemson a lot when they play high school teams all the way up to the playoffs. They can always keep their bodies fresh.

The problem is one of perception and how, in the CoFoPO era as much as or more than with the BCS, fans are usually judging conferences for their tippy tops and not their depth.
