In theory, I don't much like HOA's.  

In reality, several of my neighbors make me wish we had one, sometimes.  

Well I’m disappointed. They tapped another guy in my dept for the layoff. 

He’s in his. 60’s, but not near as much time with the company as me. Only about 15 years. We talked yesterday, he told me he didn’t want to leave, he’d have to find another job. 

I had a late call with my manager. I to.d him I was extremely disappointed to not be on the list.  He told me he only had a small amount of influence on who they picked. I guess what he was saying is that a lot of the choices came from up above, he wasn’t on board with some of them. 

I’m not sure if we’re done with layoffs here or not. At least for now. I heard about 3-4 other people who got the axe. So far I know about 15-20 people including a work coordinator in my group and a fellow construction manager. Some people at my old department. 

It’s a shame, because I’m planning on turning in my notice in a few weeks. 

Yeah getting a nice layoff package instead of just quitting woulda been a good thing for ya.  Grumpy!

In condo life, an HOA is required for various reasons.  Ours seems to be OK.  We have a property manager with an office who was tricky tacky but she left, new one seems fine.  

More relevant to me is the front desk personnel who get changed out too often.  I like to get to know them a bit.  The current group seems good anyway.  They are quite important for us.  

We had one extra assessment in 8 years, it was OK.  

Our HOA is pretty good. I much prefer the condition of our neighborhood now, compared to our previous neighborhood in Austin proper which was just a free-for-all.  Folks parking their cars in the yard, or up on blocks, tons of trash in their yards, which led to rodent and insect problems.

Any chance that once you put your notice in they could hire back that other guy?  That would be ideal.

That really is too bad.  My wife had been working on merging a company her company had bought for a few years and as it was wounding down there were going to be layoffs and her position would no longer be needed. My wife's boss offered her a division head, but she said she would be retiring within a year or so and didn't think it would be fair to take the position. She asked him to put her into the layoff pool with a buyout and he agreed.  Worked out real well for us.
