Road games at Minnie and UNL are looming. Road games are hard - always - and those two teams in particular would give their first born to beat UW this year. Michigan will be very good by the end of the year too. Iowa is always a border blood bath. Always has been. NU is always a pain in the ass. Always has been.

Yeah, but there's a difference between what is conceivable and what is successful.
When you'll be favored in all 12, and heavily favored in 11, winning only 9 is possible, but I don't see any way to twist that into successful.

For Purdue. 4 wins would be a success, and looking like the team actually has some life in them in the losses. 

I know Vegas has the O/U as 2.5 wins for the Boilers, but IMHO the schedule is easier on the back end and if Brohm is as good as billed, hopefully the team will be coming together by then. 

I think the Boilers have possible wins against Ohio, Minnesota, @Rutgers, Illinois, and Indiana. Having 4 of those 5 at home doesn't hurt.

win 9-10 games. Beat Ohio State at home. Show development and improvement over the course of the season in the young secondary, WR corps, and OL. Wilton Speight taking a step up and becoming a better QB and leader, and a RB on the roster emerging from the pack- preferably Chris Evans. Anything else is gravy.

The thing is, I don't know they'll be favored in all those games. And I don't know how favored and such. 
When I was in school, UW had back to back seasons with high expectations and neither team was all that. What I don't know simply outweighs what I do. 
I look at 2015. UW lost in dumb fashion twice to two teams whose wins outpaces their play. In a way that's not successful, but it was still 10-3 with a good bowl win. Maybe nine wins isn't a success this year, but I won't judge a nine-win season as unsuccessful until I have all the info (plus UW's status is more about brand and other teams than what I know about the QB, running backs, new DC)

I can articulate the gradients by which measurements are scored, considering Iowa's schedule:

9-3 Over achieving.
8-4 Success.
7-5 Satisfactory.
6-6 Disappointing; audible grumblings, but within expectations.
5-7 Grumblings are growing loud (but the coach will hang-on until tomorrow).
4-8 There will be some pissed-off Iowans; the QBs coach will "retire," other coaches will hold-on 'til next year.
