I'm giving a presentation at a digital technology conference we're hosting on Friday.  In some ways I could put this in the Grumpy thread since it means I'll have to show up to campus on Friday instead of working from home, and because I've got to spend some time getting the presentation together.  But, I've already done pretty much this same presentation virtually a couple of times, so I've just got to adapt it a tiny bit for a live audience.  And it's nice to be asked to contribute.  The last time we did this conference I had just hired on and basically sat in the lobby and checked in registered guests, because that's about all I was good for.

Acura = Honda
Cadillac = Chevy (and Buick, GMC)
Lexus = Toyota
Infinity = Nissan
Genesis = Hyundai (and Kia)
BMW = Mini (and Rolls-Royce)
Audi = Volkswagen (Porche, Bentley, Lamborghini, et al)
Lincoln = Ford

and on and on

Mercedes-Benz is all on its own.

I'm happy.

fwiw, my mom bought a Santa Fe several months back.  I drove her back from Houston to Louisiana over the holidays and found it an enjoyable ride.  It felt comfortable for me--and familiar too....oddly, though it's a completely different vehicle than the small Hyundai sedan I previously owned, and 17 years newer, somehow the seat felt quite a bit the same.....and I loved the seat in my old Hyundai.  But specifically, I'm talking about it feeling comfortable for my height.  At 6'2" I'm taller than most, but in some respects my car-space accommodations are even more demanding.  I'm an oddly built, long-legged guy.  My legs are disproportionately long compared to my torso.  My dad is also 6'2", but more "normal," and my hips are a good 2" at least higher than his.  I have the legs of a 6'4" guy.  Anyway, I get cranky with the leg space in a lot of vehicles, but didn't notice anything uncomfortable in the Santa Fe.
Yeah, I knew long before I even sat in the seat that there wouldn't be any space issues in the Santa Fe for me. I expected it to be big, tall, wide, to the point where I would feel like I'm in my living room, not cocooned into a vehicle cockpit. In that sense, it was like I said, it felt like stepping into an updated Ford Flex.

Looking at the certified pre-owned, though, it's interesting to see that the Santa Fe in the mileage/trim combinations I'd be going for are about equal or perhaps a little higher than the RDX mileage/trim vehicles available. (The MDX in the right trims has pushed above my price point so I've dropped that). I don't really feel that I *need* something as big as the Santa Fe / MDX, so although extra space doesn't hurt, if I can find the right RDX I'm probably leaning that way.

I actually see one from the CPO site that I want right now, but it's going to take me 2 weeks to get the money together to buy it outright... Hope it's still on the lot at that point.

Take a loan and then pay it off as soon as you can/want to.

Thinking about it... I just went back and confirmed on their site that right now they're offering a 1.49% APR deal. Which isn't bad even if I wanted to wait to pay it off.

Edit: although I hate the idea of a car payment, financing might be the answer. 1.49% would be next to nothing over 5 years. Given that I'd be investing the money I'd be using to pay for the car instead of just stuffing it under a mattress, I'd probably make a lot more in investment growth than I would pay in interest...

I went for a "run" today, the weather if perfect.  I did what I wanted, my legs are whining.

I really think most cars today are about equal "value for dollar".

Make sure you drive it - quite a bit, as much as the dealer will allow. I do not like the way Acura rides and drives.

Steak and scallops last night were out of this world, best I've ever done.    Au gratin and broccolini were tasty too. My kids ate it ALL.
