I'm closing in on 50....in my entire investing career, I think I have made exactly three* 'sell' trades for purposes of intentionally exiting 'a' security.
*excluding any routine rebalancing of my portfolio.
one was a company (tattoo removal) that was acquired, and I exited after the premium paid. two was a pair trade I made and was exiting because it was time, and another was shoe box money in a 'flyer' stock and I had seen enough. Otherwise, it's 100s of' buy' orders. I do NOT trade, do not crap pants at events. dot com bust, subprime and Fin crisis, flash crash, liberation day, sell America trades, taper tantrum, irrational exuberance, Covid, etc. all these micro moments that get stupid sell off date nicknames. just keep putting money into one of three buckets (0-2 year, 3-10, 10+yrs) based on my duration goals.
