I always give a new place a month to work out the kinks

new place in South Sioux City, NE looks promising and I've heard good things from folks that have tried it.

BUT, they don't have their liquor license yet - deal killer

December 8 opening, in walking distance.  Yay.

We are out of town Dec. 7-21.
John Lewis is fantastic.  He's got a shop in Carolina that's doing really well.  I'd guess this one will, too.

Probably for the best. Given how new openings can be, you might not be able to get in for a while.

Oh, a good BBQ joint within walking distance is dangerous...

One minor issue is that it's down a fairly large hill.  So walking back, full, is walking upwards.  We go to the Thai restaurant near this place fairly often, it's very good, and the walk back can be slightly tiring.  We usually walk down through the park, which is a very nice stroll.

Both places are in/near an old strip shipping center, Ansley Mall, (built in 1964) which surprisingly is very busy most of the time.  "Our" Kroger is there as well.  The mall has a large fitness place which is the reason for some of the traffic.

The BBQ joint is just off the Beltline, a segment which thus far doesn't get much traffic, but they built a bridge across a creek to connect the two.

Piedmont Heights Civic Association - Things Remembered: Ansley Mall by Bill Seay

The Thai place claims to be the first Thai restaurant in Atlanta dating to 1977.  These days it's hard to imagine a city with no Thai restaurants, but back "in the day", "ethnic" restaurants were quite rare, even Mexican-ish.  Things have changed.

As I have noted, we have two Persian restaurants near us, both quite good.  And there are two quasi-French places now, one we have yet to try, the other was ... remarkably disappointing and pricey.  That was one of the most disappointing meals we've had in years.
