Partly happy, partly bittersweet.
I joined a start-up company in 2007. That company was acquired by my current employer in 2009, and ever since, one of our IT guys from the original company has emailed out a "survivors list" of who remained with us from the 100 or so that started as part of the acquisition. He sent out that list today, and there are 13 names. BUT, the company spun off / split out a division back in February, and of those 13 names, 6 went with the new entity. So now they're truly not "remaining" with our side, anyway. So it's actually only 7.
I don't know if it's crazier to think about all the names that are no longer on the list... or that my name is still on it?
But I guess I'm happy that I've had the opportunity to be here for now 17 1/2 years, and that what for 29-year-old me was still a "job" when I started in 2007 has now truly developed into my "career".
