And then there's me-- born in Austin, raised in Austin, went to undergrad in Austin, worked in Austin, went to grad school in Austin, worked some more in Austin, and then moved all the way to... Cedar Park.  Oh and I work in Round Rock.

I'm crazy like that.
And how about your and wife's family?  Pretty much my entire family lives within probably 30 minutes from me, maybe a cousin here or there that may live somewhere else in Texas but I can't think of anybody who lives way off.  College Station was about a 2-2.5 hr drive from here and that's about as far away as I moved.  I did live in San Jose for a month when I worked for AMAT, but we were just training.

I'm old enough to remember when commuting between Cedar Park and Round Rock was quite a chore in rush hour.  Or any hour, really.  When I was living in Round Rock and dating a girl in Cedar Park and doing a lot of landscaping work in the CP and Leander area, I would've killed for that 45 toll road thingy y'all got now.  All I had was slow-ass 680 with a bazillion red lights.

See, back in my day we didn't have all the fancy highways you kids enjoy now :72:

Yeah both set of folks live in Austin.  Only my MIL is originally from Austin, though.  My FIL is from Terrell, my dad is from Alpine, and my mom is from Temple.

But of course one of the big reasons we've chosen to stay here, is to remain near family, especially once we had kids.

Both my brother and sister also live in Austin, although my sister lived in various places in Florida for about 15 years before coming back.

And my wife's sister is back in Austin after spending most of the past 20 years in Colorado and Oregon.  She's very much a hippie chick but she's back in Austin, for now.  Her brother is in New Jersey right now but that's because his wife is in the Air Force.  They've also lived in San Antonio, the Bay Area, the DC area, over the past 10 years.  But he's also lived in Austin much of his life and as soon as his wife hits 20 years in the Air Force, next year, they're going to move to the house they've built on their property just outside of Fredericksburg.

We're actually looking at some land very close to theirs, we just might retire there too, unless I can convince my wife to move to some island in the Caribbean!

Alpine.....wow.  I only recently learned of that town because there is a state university there our ERP department supports.  They don't have their own, it seems.  That's quite a haul to Austin.  Did your grandparents remain there, or other members of your dad's family?

The ERP folks in my office have to go to Alpine for a week at a time every now and then.  By the time they drive back, they act like they need vacations, except they don't want to drive anymore.

Yeah Sul Ross State University.  It was directly across the street from my grandparents' house.  They lived there until my grandmother passed away and my grandfather came to live at our house until he also passed.  I was in college by then but still living at home during the summers so I got to spend a lot of time with my grandpa those last few years.

Honestly it just boggles my mind how some of you can be so spread around the country.  Some of you born on one coast, went to school in the mid-west, kids living all over the country/world.
Born in the Chicago 'burbs. Have lived in San Jose, Orange County, Atlanta, and back to Orange County. My brother is here, one sister is in NJ, and another sister lives on a boat in the Caribbean part of the year and in Vail other parts. Parents were lifelong Chicagoans but now live in the Denver 'burbs.

For now, my kids are stuck in OC (bc they're minors) but I have no clue where they'll end up. Not sure whether I'll stay here once we're empty nesters either...

I drink it black also, used to add "stuff" years ago, broke the habit.  I don't grind any more, I use the Costco 3 lb. can of Columbian and a French press.

I don't think the French press is anything magical.

When I was working, I got a safety violation because apparently a coffee maker at my desk was "not allowed".  This meant I had to do the next safety audit (I didn't find any violations!).  I kept the coffee maker, I put it on the floor at my feet to "hide" it, never got another citation.  There was a small "cafe" that sold coffee in the building at some ridiculous price.  It makes me happy to remember "sticking it to the man".

I still laugh that my boss somehow replaced me with two people.  My job took about 15 minutes a week to do whatever was needed.

Read this a few yrs back

Coffee is a complex brew with compounds that can influence cholesterol levels. An important one is cafestol, a diterpene in coffee oils. Cafestol can raise LDL cholesterol, often called “bad” cholesterol. Its presence is higher in unfiltered coffee methods like French press, as the grounds are in contact with water. This allows cafestol to seep into your cup.

Paper filters are essential in reducing cafestol levels in coffee. They trap the coffee oils, preventing them from entering the drink. Consequently, paper filtered coffee poses a lower risk of increasing cholesterol compared to unfiltered methods.
