So, I've had no alcohol since Sunday, and supposedly I'm "allowed" some this evening.  I'm thinking of avoiding it again.  It's not that I feel terrific this morning, I feel fine after drinking some.  I find abstinence easier han moderation.

I stopped losing weight which isn't great but it's only been a few days.  I hoped to knock of another pound anyway.  I guess it takes longer.

Some neighborhood news made me "happy" of late.  There has been a 4 acre hold in the ground in a prime commercial spot near us.  It was supposed to be a high rise luxo condo building, they built a fancy sales center years ago and then ... hole in the ground.  The Midtown Alliance has bought the property and plans to make a park out of it.  It'll take a while of course, but it's better than the hole.

Then the Piedmont Park folks have announced a $150-170 million upgrade to the park.  That's a chunk of change, what they are showing looks pretty good, we go there regularly.

Then the botanical garden which is adjacent announced a big expansion a year or so back that looks fabulous.  They bought up 23 acres of junky stuff between the current park and the Beltline and plan a new entrance and various features.

Three rather large new apartment buildings are about to open hopefully soon with some restaurants in the ground floors.  There are more "planned" but only two now are UC, one is pretty tall for this area.  It's at about 40 stories now, to be finished next year, hopefully with interesting stuff at street level.

So, the 'hood seems to be advancing, which is good.

Having asked the question yesterday, what made me happy that day....

Well, probably not what you're looking for, but I have a rx for Tramadol which I hardly ever take, for a number of reasons.  Yesterday morning was atypically rough, so I popped one.  I forget that in addition to being a pain med it's also a serotonin re-uptake inhibitor.  It can cause me general happiness for no reason, which it did for most of the day.

I decided I was probably just going to do drugs from here on out.  Maybe find a meth dealer or something.  Our grocery bill would go down quite a bit, which might make me even happier.

Extension from yesterday that someone mentioned to me but I forgot to look at...

On my company's web site main page, the big banner at the very front and center links to... My white paper (that the CEO quoted).

But even beyond that, there's a section farther down with four tiles of content. One is a white paper I wrote. One is a tech brief that was existing but I rewrote and modernized to keep up with more recent innovations. And one is an innovation web site that was championed by a coworker but I'm probably 1/3 responsible for the content.

Not bad :)

What made you happy today?

Sent a postcard to my friend Joe (and his wife).

Outside of immediate family, no one has been a longer term friend than Joe. We go back over twenty years, to our adolescent days in Texas. An untold aspect of friendship is how well friendships can age without either party realizing it until a decade or so goes by. And that quality of  time going by becomes a point of strength in the friendship.

Awesome, good news.

In a few months after I'm replaced by AI, any chance you're hiring?

Pulled them up to read them, but since white papers often have unlisted authors and these are no different, how I do know it's really you if it doesn't say "BRAD! dammit!" at the top?

You'll just have to take my word for it.

Or you can read it and realize that's it's so long-winded that it could be nobody other than me :57:

I don't know, that would make me think @medinabuckeye1 might have written them... ;)

My wife c=accumulated a bunch of Delta FF miles.  She told me she wanted to use them to fly her son and GF to Hawaii in December (to meet us).  I said "I doubt he accepts."

She told me today he accepted her offer to fly them here in August, which they had already planned.  She said they try and fly on United and there were not any good deals.  So, she was pretty giddy about it.  Simple things.

She was happy to be spending "money" or value of a sort, by being able to do something for her child.  I suspect all of us who have children understand that.

He's a super "kid".  (He's not a kid of course.)
