Some neighborhood news made me "happy" of late. There has been a 4 acre hold in the ground in a prime commercial spot near us. It was supposed to be a high rise luxo condo building, they built a fancy sales center years ago and then ... hole in the ground. The Midtown Alliance has bought the property and plans to make a park out of it. It'll take a while of course, but it's better than the hole.
Then the Piedmont Park folks have announced a $150-170 million upgrade to the park. That's a chunk of change, what they are showing looks pretty good, we go there regularly.
Then the botanical garden which is adjacent announced a big expansion a year or so back that looks fabulous. They bought up 23 acres of junky stuff between the current park and the Beltline and plan a new entrance and various features.
Three rather large new apartment buildings are about to open hopefully soon with some restaurants in the ground floors. There are more "planned" but only two now are UC, one is pretty tall for this area. It's at about 40 stories now, to be finished next year, hopefully with interesting stuff at street level.
So, the 'hood seems to be advancing, which is good.
