My high school was a football powerhouse as well. The home of Red Grange... Two of the four years I was there we went to the state championship, and then they went either the year before I got there or the year after to make it 3 of 5.

We competed in 5A which was the biggest in Illinois at the time IIRC. I think a couple of the championships were against Mount Carmel, a private school that was too small in enrollment for 5A, but was able to recruit for football, so they punched WAY above their weight class...

With two kids in marching band I see a lot of high school football games these days.  Some of them are pretty good too.
That was the only way I was able to watch games when I was in high school - I played flute in the marching band so got in free to all football and basketball games (the only two sports teams we had, lol).  Loved the atmosphere and it hooked me on football (not so much basketball-our gyms were so small it was downright dangerous with the band right next to the court).  Played in summer marching bands where we would play at a lot of rodeo parades like the Days of '76 in Rapid City and Deadwood and a couple years I lived in a town where we had regular Thursday evening concerts in the band shell at the park.  Good times.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said,
but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.  Anonymous

In FL, before all the private school nonsense took over, we had a rural 3A school that could have beaten most 5A teams - Lake Butler.  Their uniforms looked like LSU.  We didn't play them, but in the mid-late 90s, they were scary.

When I was a kid, the main HS in Augusta was Richmond Academy (public depite the name).  Often they'd run off ten wins in a row and then play Valdosta and get beat 41-3 or something bad like that.  Valdosta recruited all over south Georgia.  If some junior high player looked good, his Dad would get offered a really nice job in Valdosta.

Now one of the powers is Lowndes Academy, also in Valdosta, which still has that HS.  Some of the schools around ATL have major programs because they have money and "feeder programs" at the lower levels.

In the mid-late 90s, they probably could've beaten actual LSU.

Today I took my 17yo daughter down to the UT campus for an official campus tour and visit, and she really liked it and said she can imagine herself going to school there.

It was a good day.

Saw the cardiologist. Things are good. Took me off of one med that was causing headaches and weight gain and another that causes water retention. He replaced those two things with one thing.

I'm happy.

And even more happy when I come off of the blood thinner in a few months. I used to be able to give blood and not even use a bandage after. Now I bleed like crazy when I scratch a no-see-um bite. I also bruise easy. Never was a bruiser. (This last bit was a grumpy part - sorry.)

Tonight we're headed back downtown with my daughter, to go to an outdoor concert just off campus.  One of my favorite rock/blues musicians of all time, Ian Moore, is playing.

We've always played a lot of our favorite music for the kids, and several years back, my daughter realized that she too really loves Ian Moore's music.  We've been unable to take her to hear him live since he typically plays 21+ clubs, but tonight it's an outdoor concert open to all, and on top of that it's free!

So the good day shall continue.

Well if you're not not bleeding a little after donation that's like having gravy in your veins.Good that things are getting balanced out for you. Probably good he put you on thinners. I've donated since like '89 and those needles are good bit bigger in Dia. than those that they fetch blood samples or I.V.s with. How are the stents doing they put in to you?
