OT - Video games

Nintendo dropped the ball yet again

It appears pre-orders for the upcoming Super NES Classic sold out everywhere online in a matter of minutes

So much for "we'll definitely be prepared with enough systems after the disaster that was the NES Classic last year"

No worries, though.

You can still purchase one on eBay for only (said in Dr. Evil voice): "One million dollars"  :sign0065:

the real tragedy is them not making anymore nes classics and i'm guessing won't make many snes classics.

i can handle not getting in on the first release if they'd just continue to manufacture them. or sell rights to someone who will.

That's the confusing part.  Limiting initial release to create demand?  Sure

To halt production with demad still high?  Nonsense.

I also don't get doing it in back to back years (with rumors of N64 next year).  Make enough to meet demand, and space them out to regenerate interest.

It seems like Nintendo horribly botched their shot at this.

I'd like to get the SNES one, but I'm not going to chase them when you can emulate them for far less of a headache.

Been playing Elder Scrolls Online a lot lately.  I got it when it first came out years ago and hated it.  Gave it another chance and they have made some changes - it is much more fun to play.

I was excited for the NES classic (and eventually got one as I had a buddy who notified me immediately when they were available one day). Even so, I only play it intermittently.

I don't particularly care about the SNES. I'm not going to search it out just for Super Mario Kart and F-Zero, which are the only things I think I'd even play.

so, I'm kinda sorta tempted to spend $40 more than the MSRP on eBay and get an SNES Classic Edition

- anybody have this?

- is it worth having?

- btw, like the previous NES Classic Edition, this mini-console has hella short cords for the controllers but there are apparently quality wireless ones out there ... which cost $25 each (ugh)

Also, anyone have a 3DS?

- the consensus online is that the "3-D" aspect of it is gimmicky at best, nausea-inducing at worst

- although the technology was pretty cool to see in person upon its release, it seems less intriguing now

- because of that, I might have to get the recently-released New 2DS XL at some point

the 3-D works pretty well but you don't need it. probably OK with a 2DS. not too many good games coming out for it anymore now tho.
2017 was an excellent year for VGs, I don't really have a desire to play 20 year old games anymore. Plus knowing nintendo they'll release another improved SNES classic ed with wireless controllers sometime this year.

Does the SNES one have Ken Griffey Jr Presents MLB?

The only game I played nearly as much was on N64 - GoldenEye.....many a 4-way game going till 3am on that one, lol

Unfortunately, it doesn't have that baseball game :(
The 21 games built-in and given an HD graphic upgrade are great, though (see link below):

These would cost u hundreds of dollars individually plus cartridges are sometimes temperamental and don't work randomly

Speaking of N64, I decided to get one off eBay last summer
- the only 2 games I have for it are Mario Tennis and Robotron 64 ... both are fun with the former being the one I play more

Yep, if I get a handheld, I was leaning toward the New 2DS XL

- it's okay if there aren't many new games coming out (they really do seem to be focusing on the home / portable hybrid nature of the Switch now) 'cuz there are quite a few 3DS games already available .... as well as a TON of regular DS games that can be played due to the 2DS's backward-compatibility (I've been using my DS Lite thus far)

- when u throw in the ability to download classic games from the Nintendo eShop, there aren't enough lifetimes to enjoy all of them :'(

A number of good games I'd enjoy playing again, but there are some random-ass games included on that SNES.  Weird.

oh, let me add that at this point getting a ps4 would definitely be an 'Impulse buy'

- it would probably just gather dust the way my ps2, ps3, Gamecube and Wii are

- BUT for some reason, Virtual Reality games have me hella intrigued ...
