If we are truly to view Star Wars in isolation, then we also have to view it in isolation of all movies released after 1977, seeing as it completely changed the way that movies were made.

The gap between it and all of the movies that came out before it is far more vast than what you will find to be the case with any of the other Star Wars movies.

Like I said, I agree there.

I'm just simply voting based on my own preference/entertainment value.  Not their value in terms of a piece of art, or as a turning point in filmmaking.

There are no rules on how to vote, and FTR I did still vote for Star Wars.  Just not due a New Hope.

Star Wars.  Avengers may be better 20 years from now, but Stars Wars is it for me now.  The intergalactic aspect, the mystery of the force vs having a blaster on your hip, all of it is great.

Both Avengers movies have had smaller villains, but the main villain in each was 'the struggle to work as a team'.  Bleh.

Stars Wars (it's not "A New Hope" to me, get off my lawn")
Missed this.  Lucas tried to make it Episode IV: A New Hope all along, but wasn't permitted to, in the even no more were green-lighted, but it's been A New Hope since 1981, so it's not exactly like some recent change.

Heh, I take it either way. My first Star Wars movie in the theater was Empire. And it's my favorite. I've always know the original movie as a "New Hope" But the poster in my home office just claims it as Star Wars so I'm ok with either name.

Why does the "Add image to post" always cut off the edges? It forces the pic to be a fixed ratio.

That's a cool poster.

As to the other question, I'd take it to the technical board.  I've never had a problem with it, but I've never tried to post a wide photo.

here is the full picture link

that is the URL of your pic, and it doesn't show the peripheral images in it, and it isn't exceptionally wide...

that's^ the whole one, and if you click it it should blow up....

use the bullitan board code for bigger images.  it's :

Code: [Select]

if you want to upload a pic, you can use either the drag and drop tool or upload attachment tool... the attachment will be small clickable thing below post (that blows up when you click it) and the drag and drop will be inline with your post.

When I saw it, in the theater, in 1977, it was Star Wars.  When it became a global sensation, it was Star Wars.

It actually became "A New Hope" before the 1980 release of Empire, but the world already knew it as Star Wars.

Again, we're clearly coming at it from different places, since I saw it in the theater, upon first release, in 1977.  I find it far more entertaining, on its own merits, than you do.  It's okay, we're certainly allowed to have different opinions, I just vehemently disagree with yours.  :)

Yeah, I get why some like Empire better.

Star Wars was a bastion of creativity on a shoestring budget.

Something that had never been done before.

The rest are riding its coattails.

I know a lot of people that like Empire better.  I get that, it was a great movie.  But the originality of Star Wars is what puts it over the top for me.  Empire is maybe a 1B for me.

And sometimes, the ewoks make me want to put Return down around Phantom Menace, but those moments are usually fleeting.

Yeah, I used to be upset about their decision to replace Kashyyyk with Endor in Return of the Jedi, right up until I saw the Star Wars Holiday Special. Now I simply can't imagine having to listen to those God Forsaken Wookies howling and carrying on for a full third of that movie. In retrospect, it might have been one of the best decisions that they ever made.

Sorta like how everyone wanted to see the Biggs Darklighter footage... until it was actually released. Rather than being another Luke or Han, it was just some corny little putz with a bad 70s mustache.
