On the left is a double switch I put in, to separate the fan from the ceiling light that goes with it.

Sometimes you just want the fan only. I did this with some of my ceiling fans too.

Out of curiosity, why did you go with white switches, but brushed metal plates?

I have a Texas question. What is used to house the wiring? Or is it Romex there, like it is here?

Not having conduit was a shocker to me when I started opening things up. the only way to wire here is to go up in the attic and drop new wires in the walls. I miss conduit.
All romex here.  You'll obviously see conduit for runs along cinderblock or other solid substrate, but for sheetrock over stick-framing it's all romex.

Indeed.  I installed all aluminum faceplates in my Aistream when I rewired it.

We rented a condo before we moved here, after we sold our home up there.

We did some painting and decorating in that condo, much of which we were reimbursed for.

The stainless wall plates (not brushed metal) were not reimbursed, so I took them all down, replaced them with the craplastic ones I took off, and brought them to use here.

They were not cheap. The regular brushed metal ones are cheap.

I could not get my preferred brand (or colors) for most of the switches and outlets I replaced.

The white has grown on me. It's a nice contrast.
