I worked for over 40 years paying in 7.5 percent of my salary to the government for social security.

My employer paid a matching amount in my name. 40 years!!

Now the government labels my social security payment a Government Benefit.

That really chaps my ass.

You don't want to get into SS with me.

Being self-employed for so long and having paid both of my halves and many others' halves...

Makes my blood boil.

Had another 2-hr meeting with engineering from 11-1.  I think I've previously complained about two-hour meetings and how much I hate them.  But why do they insist on putting this thing right during lunch?  Gives me a major Grump.

Also, Grumpy and related....  A long time ago, I think in the Tech thread, I mentioned this project for engineering that needed a database solution but we were going to have to try to do it just with software products.  We are on the home stretch of this thing, so close we can all taste it, but we ran into two roadblocks in this meeting that's putting a damper on everything.

It's like this software is designed to do most of what we need it to do, if you're creative enough to use it in ways that it probably wasn't designed for....but also designed to thwart you in every way from getting that last 5-10% just how you want it.  More grumpy.

If we pull this off I'll consider it a big win for our department and it might even make the happy thread.  The Industrial Engineering prof that brought this to us and is heading it up on their end asked us in the last meeting if he thought we could present this elsewhere to show what they've done (and what we've done).  One of my co-workers told him he could present whatever he wanted, she was going to hide under a rock and forget any of this ever happened.  She's pulled a lot more weight on this project than me, and is likely more burnt out on it.  I guess I'm offering a grumpy paragraph on her behalf.

I don't care what they call it.
Just want my money back.   Hopefully the check doesn't bounce

Back to the India thing. We have an engineering center in Chennai. When we estimate projects we estimate engineering hours. US charges at around $145 per hour. India charges around $40 per hour. And their work is not good, in my opinion.

How does the Indian firm get around Licensed P.E. design requirements?

It’s not civil work that requires stamped drawings. A lot of it is instrumentation , e.g. electrical , process piping. I don’t think I’ve seen stamped drawings in my IFCs ever.

But my guess is that they do most of the work in India and then someone over here checks it.
