I think Miami is gonna buy Quinn Ewers.
Rumors in Austin are, it's all Oregon. They have a guy but maybe they don't like that guy, who knows? And it's going to take a pretty good chunk of change to make him do college one more year instead of the NFL, even if his NFL draft status isn't all that great.
This is the part of NIL/portal/free agency/college pay-for-play that really is just so different and unnerving, to me. In a world with no NIL and no unlimited free agency, Ewers would most likely be sticking around for another year at Texas if a check on his NFL draft status came back as less than desirable. Even with Arch Manning waiting in the wings, he'd probably still be the most likely starter, and Arch would either have to sit another year, or transfer, but there wouldn't be a pile of money waiting for him at a new school, so the only reason to transfer would be for playing time.
As it is, you have a young promising QB potentially pushing out a proven starter (even if he's not as great as we'd hoped), because I guess we don't want to lose the young guy. There are worse problems to have, of course, it's just really weird. Ideally Ewers would have just aced this season, had mega-high draft potential, and moved on, as part of the natural course of things. This is so weird, and I don't like it. But it is what it is.
