Nice of them to do that for the visiting fan bases.

I view single use stadia as being inefficient and silly.  Any new one should accomodate many uses beyond football in my view.

True, but as the old axiom goes, jack of all trades, master of none.  Multi-use stadia tend to not be particularly good at any one thing.

When UT removed the track in our football stadium, and built a track-specific stadium next door, it improved the experience for both sports.

That line of thinking got us the Metrodome, Fulton County Stadium, the Vet, Three Rivers, and Riverfront Stadium. None of the aforementioned cookie cutter multi-users have been fondly remembered.

As far as getting this through the Evanston City Council, good luck. That's some of the wealthiest real estate in greater Chicago, and they'll play hell allowing something like that to be built in their precious little neighborhood.

That is true for Ohio State as well. When I was in school the South Stands (at the open end of the Horseshoe) were a temporary structure that was disassembled and reassembled every year. My dad called it the "Erector Set" because it looked vaguely like a scaled up version of the kids toy.

It was nice in that tOSU had an Olympic sized track inside of an 80-90k stadium but I don't think that even Jesse Owens actually managed to fill the stadium for track meets.

it does state that the old stadium will be torn down and the new one on-site

so, no real estate needs to be bothered

Compare MB stadium which is often used for other events (and soccer) with the Cincy NFL stadium, which is used for a few NFL games a year and nothing else.

a football stadium in just a large rectangle

it can easily be used for other events

baseball, not as much

I don't know if the Wildcats play baseball

The bigger point is that the rest of Evanston isn't going to want to change the status quo. Classic town v. gown.

A dome makes a stadium multiuse capable even in bad weather.

the haters may not have much recourse if it's entirely on University property

Yeah, gotta love the people that buy a house next to a college, and then complain when they do the things that colleges do.

Where will the Wildcats play while Ryan is being demolished and the new stadium built?
A decade of Victory over Penn State.
