I don't know if Martinez's absence helps aor hurts Nebraska's chances. I read that the gambling houses are now pulling this game off the table. Here is one that locked out the Iowa-Nebraska game: Iowa @ Nebraska Betting Odds At FanDuel Sportsbook

Meh,  Iowa fans only care about 2 of those stats.  Scoring offense and scoring defense.  Yards per game mean nothing to us.  Maybe turnover margin means something but that can be misleading too because its so hit and miss.

Agree Iowa got lucky this year with 6th year senior Kicker Caleb Shudak.  The guy has been awesome all year.  No missed extra points.  Was 3 of 4 in FG attempts against ILL with only miss a 56-yard attempt at end of 1st half.  Also had 2 FG's against Minn.  3 FG's against PSU in close wins.
so, Caleb is DUE to miss a couple?!?!?

gotta help their chances..
We have no idea what the young kid will do, not enough experience/data

what we know is that Martinez was almost assured to give the game away
we don't know this about the young guy so, plus Nebraska

I think we think alike but express it differently. I checked out Logan Smothers' recruiting background, and limited game time performance. Four* player. Typical Nebraska QB who runs and throws, i.e. dual threat QB. So as a high schooler he was regarded as being a very talented QB recruit.
There appears to be a big divide between Logan Smothers and Heinrich Haaberg in talent.

Martinez being out may be good news for Iowa's depleted secondary.

Is it a complete coincidence that Iowa's 2-game losing streak started when CB Riley Moss and his backup Terry Roberts were both out?  Sure you can argue defense did not lose the Purdue and Wisc games.  But sometimes the Iowa defense has a way of winning games for Iowa when they are healthy.

Moss is now back with a big ol brace on his leg,  but CB Hankins and safety Koerner were both  out against ILL and Roberts was still out.    So 3 of the 5 top DB were out against ILL and it showed.

So I was expecting Iowa's defense to struggle agsinst Martinez.  Martinez being out is big, I agree.

the recruiting services saw a big difference in talent between the 2 QBs, but Haarberg was hidden at Kearney Catholic High School in rural Nebraska

from what Husker fans and media have been able to gleen, Haarberg @ 6'5" has  the stronger arm and perhaps more potential talent as a passer.  But, with his long legs he also has impressive speed running.

Smothers might be more the accurate passer and has better quickness running the ball.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haarberg was ranked among the nation’s top 20 dual-threat quarterbacks by 247Sports. He had more than a dozen scholarship offers and chose Nebraska over Boston College. His father, Rod, was a walk-on fullback at Nebraska in the early 1990s.

#17 Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2, 9-2) at Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-7, 3-8)
1:30 (Fri) - Lincoln, NE - BTN
I will be interested to see what the vibe in Memorial Stadium on Friday afternoon will be.  It's Thanksgiving football in Lincoln, it should be packed, and it's their last chance to the Huskers for another 9+ months.  But it's also the final game in what could be the program's worst season since 1957, Scott Frost is returning, and Adrian Martinez is out.  Iowa's defense is tough enough even if the Huskers had Martinez, and even though his propensity to turn the ball over is not ideal against a defense that ranks #2 in the nation in the nation in takeaways, I think still needs the threat of his explosiveness to have a shot.  Iowa's quarterback situation is unclear, although my support last week for Alex Padilla looks ill advised after he got the start against Illinois...and struggled mightily.  I said that while he wasn't going to complete for a percentage on par with Spencer Petras, he ability to push the ball down the field offset that, and opened up space for Tyler Goodson behind a line that does not run block up to Iowa's standard.  6-17 for 83 yards, a pick and 2 sacks.  Maybe there is something to at least opening up some space for Tyler Goodson?  Maybe?  Goodson's 132 rushing yards was arguably his best performance of the season considering that his only higher rushing totals came against Kent State and Northwestern.  But even that probably wouldn't have been enough without a pick six, a kick return touchdown, and four field goals, including a 51 yarder.  I would expect Spencer Petras to be back under center, assuming he is healthy.  The story of this season has been near miss after near miss, as Nebraska has run off a five game losing streak, by an average of 6 ppg, with the biggest loss all season being 9 points.  But that's with Adrian Martinez, who is not only 4th in the Big Ten in passing, but is Nebraska's second leading rusher in Big Ten play. Freshman Logan Smothers has only seen extensive quarterback reps, against Fordham on Labor Day weekend.  He had a QBR of 13.4.  It's unclear if Rahmir Johnson, the team's leading rusher, will be back, after missing the Wisconsin game.  With Johnson out, Brody Belt, Marvin Scott III and Markese Stepp combined for 78 yards on 25 carries (3.1 ypc).  That's why even with a shoulder injury that is ending his season, Adrian Martinez threw the ball a season high 35 times, the second most attempts since his freshman year.  If the options are to lean on that combination of backs, or a freshman throwing the ball 35 times in his first career start, give me the Hawkeye defense.

Milton Andrew Munson Jr. is a military veteran who passed away at age 73 on Nov. 16.

The stress is put first on his past service to his country, although his obituary that appeared in the Hastings Tribune has gone viral for a request tied to this Friday's Nebraska-Iowa game, and some good humor regarding this tough stretch for Husker football.

"In lieu of flowers, please place an irresponsibly large wager on Nebraska beating Iowa," it was written, later continuing on, "The grim reality of the Nebraska Cornhuskers finishing yet another season with a losing record proved to be too much to bear for Milton Andrew Munson, who decided he’d seen enough of this world during the team’s recent bye week. The Huskers may not have sent him into the afterlife with a victory but at least they didn’t lose. And sometimes, that’s the best you can hope for."

A fundraising campaign to honor Munson's request by local radio guys Josh Peterson and Jack Mitchell has taken off #forMilt, with more than $4,200 raised as of Tuesday morning. A winning bet would go to a charity of the family's choice.

As the obituary reads, Munson was born in Hastings, and a graduate of Hastings High before he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii during the Vietnam War.

After that, he graduated from Kearney State college and also received a graduate with a doctor of pharmacy from the Creighton University School of Pharmacy. He'd have a family, and whatever struggles came in life, he remained a Nebraska fan along the way, with it noted how much he enjoyed taking his sons to their first Husker games.

The obituary was written by his sons, according to Todd Munson, who was appreciating the feedback to it.

As for the football bet request, despite Nebraska's 3-8 record and Iowa's 9-2 record, the oddsmakers tabbed the Huskers a 4-point favorite when the line opened on Sunday, which seems strange based on the records, but NU has developed credibility in the betting circles as a team that will trade blows with about anyone in the Big Ten.

After the news of the Adrian Martinez injury on Monday, the Nebraska-Iowa game was momentarily taken off the boards, with a new line set about an hour later, initially casting Iowa as a 1 1/2-point favorite with NU prepared to give Logan Smothers his first career start at QB.

The spread is still hovering around that mark right now, with the Hawkeyes favored by either 1 or 1 1/2 on various lines.

What you can count on, knowing Husker fans, is there will be a good number who honor the request from a late member of the Big Red faithful, and put a little coin down on behalf of a team that is 3-8 in this strangest of seasons of close loss after close loss –yet usually keeps their heart all the way to the end as it was with Milt.

There were a number of starters that did not play in the Hawkeyes' win over Illinois this past weekend, and Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz gave an update on those players on Tuesday.

Ferentz said that Iowa cornerback Matt Hankins is 'definitely' out for the Nebraska game. Hankins was a late scratch before this past weekend's contest. Hankins has been one of the best cornerbacks in the Big Ten this year, according to Pro Football Focus.

As for the other injuries, Ferentz added that they're on the 'iffy spot.' Ferentz said that Iowa starting safety Jack Koerner 'looked okay' in practice on Tuesday. His status is still unknown for Friday. Walk-on redshirt sophomore Quinn Schulte saw more snaps at safety against Illinois with Koerner sidelined.

Iowa cornerback Terry Roberts is 'still iffy', according to Ferentz. Riley Moss and Jermari Harris started at cornerback last week for the Hawkeyes. Roberts has seen more snaps at cornerback this year with the injuries that have occurred. Roberts has played an important role on special teams the last couple of years, and is set to become a more focal point of the defensive secondary as an upperclassman.

Iowa starting left tackle Mason Richman 'has a chance' to play against Nebraska, but he's still being monitored throughout the week. Jack Plumb has filled in at left tackle for Richman while Nick DeJong has played right tackle.

I have not heard about an outbreak of flu on the Iowa football team. COVID19 is now as high as last November when so many died. I have not heard of a COVID outbreak on the football team.
