Michigan State (2-1) vs. #8 Washington (3-0) Post Game

Well, what was supposed to be a bit of a barometer for this coaching staff is something certainly different now.

I don't hate the idea of Barnett getting the permanent job, based on how well he retains the current roster and '24 class, along with how he does over the next 10 games, 4 of which are against top 8 teams in the nation.  Little different than Bobby Williams who had never even been a coordinator, just coached one game, didn't have a portal to worry about, and was so close to Signing Day in an era where guys rarely flipped.

Not saying he should, or that it will work, simply that I think we'll have a better idea of whether he's the right guy.

I think MSU battles given the situation, at home.  I think the letdown probably comes next week.

Washington 31, Michigan State 23

But 42-14 wouldn't shock me

Washington is gonna blow them off the field imo. Not gonna be pretty.

Certainly possible/probable.  On a neutral field, almost assured.

I think a lot of times when teams have a major issue, they pull it together for that first game.  I think they might have that Saturday, before collapsing in relative toss up games against Iowa and Maryland the next two weeks.

Penix is a Sparty slayer. In his 3 career games (2 at IU, 1 WASH) vs MSU he's....

69% completion, 1,003 yards passing, 10 TD's (9 PASS, 1 RUSH) vs 2 INT's.

If his history is any indication, he's going to have a whale of a game.

Washington doesn’t bother running the ball much and will sometimes not even have an RB in the backfield.

It’s all through the air for the Huskies. Everybody already knows Penix, but the Huskies WRs of McMillan, Odunze, and Polk are the best trio in the nation, together averaging 300 yds receiving/game through their first two games.

Barnett is a DB guy, so he should have a strategy but I have no idea how well the Spartans defensive backfield is ready to hold up in terms of talent or experience.

The Huskies OL is completely untested thus far into the season after replacing their three best OL from last year. IMO, best bet is to establish a persistent blitz against Penix. Teams that were able to do this last year disrupted the Huskies passing game enough to hang in the game.

Would hope it’s not something like a 42-14 loss for MSU. Washington is coming off a 43-10 home win Vs an overmatched Tulsa team.

problem with blitzing Penix too often is he's a 6th year senior who has seen it all. hard guy to fool, hard guy to rattle. blitz him and don't get home he'll make you pay.

if Penix wasn't so old and didn't have all the injury history he'd be the #1 pick in the draft imo. he's a much better pure passer than Caleb Williams. the ball shoots off his hand and he throws beautiful looking spiral bullets. he's just got an awesome arm. he makes way more WOW throws than Caleb does.

Too bad we don't have 17 fingers to hold up as a rallying cry for our self imposed suspended head coach.

Ya they might come out with a devil may care attitude and play loose. Not real familliar with MSUs roster but hopefully Sparta treats them like the dogs they are

they should wear free tug-er t-shirts imo and then make the phone signal with their hands put it up to the ear holes in their helmets and then do a little fake jerk off motion simultaneously to show their support imo...

Anything to throw support behind their douchebag coach suspended by their own institution.

I thought this team would show early fight, and then get out talented in the second half.  I think there's a reason these recruits signed up to play for Mel.  They might be talented, but they have zero dog in them.

Doing this in front of the 2013 Big Ten champion Rose Bowl team is even more embarassing
