You know how ribbon is naturally curly when you pull it off the roll? 

I seem to be incapable of curling ribbon. Somehow, though, I'm incredibly capable of straightening ribbon when attempting to curl it. 

I don't know how that works.

Mom use to pull the ribbon between her thumb and a marker,pen,scissors what ever she could pin it against

I asked my daughter, a PT for the VA, does KwikStar (KwikTrip in Wisc.) take checks. My daughter is an incredible worker and moonlights, at KwikStar. She responded, KwikStar does not accept checks. I used the cash machine at KwikStar to withdraw enough cash to pay for a Lowes Gift Card for my daughter and her husband (my holiday chef).
