Lots of people like a change of pace throughout the year as far as decorating goes.  Seasonal decorations certainly aren't limited to celebrations of religious holidays.
Correct I keep Halloween Decor up until T'Giving pratically or until the deer eat the pumpkins. All in an effort to support the Prince of Darkness

Not to carry OAM's water, but he didn't reference religion (for once). That was my addition.

I might argue that seasonal decorations of any sort would fall under his "I don't get it" point as it's putting things up just to take them down.

Well this IS the "Merry Christmas" thread, so being topical and all...

Didn't put anything up
Won't be taking anything down

I did drive a few hundred miles south just to drive a few hundred miles north a couple weeks later

I don't get it.

Yeah, you guys are reading way too much into my post.

Just talking about effort and reward.  I just don't find holiday decor and lights moves my mood meter.  That's all.  It does for most, and that's fine.  Just seems like a lot of effort and money.

Putting on a wig takes about 3 seconds.  No ladders.  No fire hazards.  No effort.

And driving hours to see someone you care about or to vacation seem a helluva lot more rewarding than looking at lights.
But that's just me.

It wasn't a 'bah, humbug' post.  I sincerely just don't get it.  The major holidays are roughly spaced out a month apart, during the months you can't go outside to play.  I guess their motive to distract the masses works.

Shrug.

"Their"

Define "they."

The gubmit, I guess.  They're the ones who make holidays official, right?
Or maybe 'they' are the masses.
Either way.

I was there last Thursday through Tuesday to visit friends and family for the holidays. We did get one cold day with some good snow flurries.

Whereabouts in Ohio are you usually at?

Also, Christmas decorations stay up until at least Epiphany on January 6. I tend to be more lazy on the Christmas cards. So long as they're gone by Ash Wednesday that's fine by me.

Born in Ohio but lived in Michigan from 12 years old until 54- then Florida.

Northern metro Detroit suburbs-  Troy, Royal Oak, Clarrkston.

Well when we don't you suggest we aren't listening and I wouldn't want to pass up a chance to get corrected 😜

A buddy and his wife/kids moved to Phoenix last year to be closer to her family. According to him it was routinely between 100°-117° in the summer so same thing there during Independence Day

The 4th of July sort of had to be on the 4th of July, so that's an exception.  The date is the date.
Unlike Christmas.
:96: Now THAT is  religious comment.

Well, this IS the Christmas thread after all.  Religious comments are somewhat... expected

Anyway, I'm not sure why you think the masses are trying to distract the masses with the idea of changing out seasonal decorations.

And if the government is trying to distract the masses with the idea of changing out seasonal decorations, well... that's about the most innocuous thing I think the government has ever been accused of plotting.

It's having monthly holidays to busy yourself with, not the decorations themselves.
