I wonder if those are the largest two cities not connected by a freeway rather directly.

It's across the freeway from the strip, but it's walkable for the able bodied. I'd consider it easy to get to.
I used to stay at Tropicana when I would go to Vegas.  According to Google it is a 1.2 mi walk from there.  Tropicana is at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard (the Strip) and Tropicana Avenue along with NYNY, MGM, and Luxor so it would be about a mile from any of those.  Somewhat closer to Mandalay Bay and somewhat farther from Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, The Venetian, etc.  Not a bad walk and Vegas in December shouldn't be ungodly hot.
I've done the drive a few times, it is a little odd.

Probably won't be able to make trip this year.
My brother and I did a round trip of that drive in January, 2003.  We flew in and out of Vegas and went to the BCSNCG/Fiesta Bowl at Sun Devil Stadium.  It isn't a bad drive, 4:47 per google but we did it a LOT faster with only one ticket.

Back then they hadn't built the bridge yet so US 93 still went across the Dam.  We were advised by friends ahead of us to avoid the Dam because post-9/11 security was causing MAJOR delays getting through so we took US 95 South to NV 163 then crossed the Colorado River at Laughlin and got back to US 93 at Kingman.

The oddest thing about the drive to me was that on the return trip we could see light ahead almost from the time we got on US 95.  It is amazing how far away you can see the light emanating from Las Vegas.

If you want a more quiet, non-smoking property, check out the Vdara hotel. It's a little farther from the stadium (would be a 2 mi walk according to the googles), but it's not a casino, and the entire hotel is non-smoking. It's between the Bellagio and Aria, so it's a pretty good location.

My wife and I stayed there when we went to see George Strait, and it was very nice to be in a much more quiet and non-smoking property at the end of the night.

Early in the Covid run there was free parking all up and down the strip. I don't know if there still is, I haven't toiled around there in a hot minute.

We stayed at Tropicana when we got married. An outdoor wedding in Vegas in July - highly recommended

Nice.

What did you like about Tropicana over, say, Luxor?
Price.

Tropicana is a much older hotel.  The cross-street (crossing Las Vegas Boulevard aka "The Strip") is called Tropicana Avenue because the Tropicana was the first thing built that far South.  As I understand it, before Tropicana that was all undeveloped desert.

The Tropicana isn't as nice, but when I was going to Vegas I was a young guy not all that far removed from crashing on a futon in somebody's dorm so I really didn't need a "nice" room and it doesn't matter where you stay, you can obviously go to all the hotels/casinos/restaurants anyway.  I liked it because it was right at the same corner with NYNY, MGM, Excalibur, Luxor but much cheaper.

I'll have to check that out.

When I stayed down there I picked the Luxor, and they charged twice as much as what Google said it would be. Then they stuck me into one of their overflow towers instead of the actual pyramid. They also had to close one of their 5 pools because someone crapped in it.

They don't ever change that pool water btw. The three casinos in Mesquite NV near me still have the same water since at least when they reopened from Covid in May 2020. Hundreds of swimmers every day, some with kids still in diapers. Others getting hammered without having to get out of the pool to order and receive a drink. So you know they aren't going to the restroom every single time that they have to pee. You are basically swimming in chlorinated toilet water.

lucky for me, swimming isn't one of my great pleasures in life, and usually frowned upon during a round of golf
