Iowa State replaced its lightening day opponent with Incarnate Word, but Incarnate Word made the FCS Playoffs; so now Iowa State which is bowl eligible, and doesn't need another win against a scholarship team, just replaced FCS Incarnate Word with --- the Drake Bulldogs, and FCS nonscholarship team. Sheesh!

The sad thing is, in the not-so-distant past, ISU may have dropped some games against Drake.  I think they actually did in the late 80s or early 90s.

I presume you are correct. The Register said the last Drake played ISU was in 1985. I recall that year coinciding with the last season Drake played scholarship football. And, I seem to recall Drake had a regular season record something like 10-1.
Drake is nonscholarship FCS. I recall once in the past 10 years when Drake was good they played UNI and Drake was absolutely whacked by UNI. There is little comparison between nonscholarship and scholarship level FCS. Someone could correct me about a few upsets. Drake is more of a fancified D-III team that travels nearly coast-to-coast to play in their conference. The speed difference between Drake and ISU will be noticeable, but it won't be noticeable to those living in Alabama. The game is Dec. 1 and televised on the Cyclone Network, only.

Nebraska and Akron have reached an agreement for the game that never was, and were in agreeable enough terms to schedule another game for down the road.

The Huskers and Zips reached a two-part deal, with a reduced payout for the season-opener the was canceled from this past season, but also with an additional meeting in the future that includes a healthy price tag for when Akron comes to Lincoln next time.

As part of the agreement:

– Nebraska will play host to Akron at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 6, 2025. Akron will receive a guarantee of $1.45 million for the 2025 game in Lincoln.

– The Huskers will pay Akron $650,000 for the originally scheduled game on Sept. 1, 2018, that was canceled due to severe weather in Lincoln. The contract signed in 2014 provided a guarantee of $1.17 million for Akron to play the game in Lincoln, and Nebraska has agreed to pay more than half of that guarantee despite the game being canceled.

“We are pleased to finalize an agreement with Akron that is beneficial for both institutions,” Huskers athletics director Bill Moos said in a statement. “We have had good dialogue with Akron during this process and are appreciative of the cooperation and patience from everyone involved. We look forward to Akron making a return trip to Memorial Stadium in 2025.”

The 2025 game against the Zips will be the home opener at Memorial Stadium for Nebraska. The Huskers open the season at Illinois on Aug. 30, before Akron will visit Lincoln. Nebraska also has a non-conference game scheduled at Cincinnati on Sept. 13, 2025, with one remaining non-conference opening.

If I was Nebraska, I put it in the contract that Akron needs to book a hotel for both Friday night and Saturday night the next time they play.  Just in case the game on Saturday gets canceled, they can then reschedule it for the next day Sunday instead.
