Rhule is an excellent coach.  I’d give him a four years.
A decade of Victory over Penn State.

All in since 1969

I fear Nebraska may have lost it's BB status, permanently, and won't recover no matter who is coach.  You have to recruit at a high level to do well, duh, and I don't think they can today.
Agreed. Location and population/demographics. Gotta recruit nationally, and Nebraska hasn't been a helmet in current recruits' lifetimes.

How are you going to convince talent from warm sunny possibly coastal climes to spend winter in Lincoln?

Rhule and his staff seem to be pretty good recruiters

better yet they seem to be able to develop players

a bowl game would have been huge for recruiting and development

I think they go to a bowl next season

no, UNL is not going to recruit at the level of a top 5 or top 10 recruiting class
of course they very seldomly have

agreed
He's doing things the right way since his arrival
his biggest mistake so far has been Jeff Sims

that was a big mistake
cost him 2 or 3 wins this season

Rhule does strike me as a solid coach.  I wonder if the Aggies might come offering.

I would guess he can get Nebbie into consistent 8 win seasons.

don't think Aggies is looking at him after one 5-7 season, but if their next coach doesn't work out and Rhule proves himself at UNL in 3 or 4 seasons........certainly

and he'd be a fool to not take the $$$ and better recruiting advantage

he does seem like the type that would like to stay in Lincoln and become the next Devaney/Osborne

this yarn has been uttered for 50+ years.
how does anybody from warm sunny coastal climes ever get dooped into playing in winter climates.     It didn't suddenly become cold in BIG climates.

The population overall in warm and sunny climes is growing, and has been for decades.  That is a factor.

I know around here HS football is a LOT more developed than it was in my day.

We all know what attracts elite level recruits, though the weighting varies by individual.

And those same challenges have faced Nebraska then as they do now, it isn't novel.

What's kind of funny is that was one of the only things Callahan was successful at, Recruiting 'nationally'.   His problems of course were too numerous to inventory here not to mention I don't care to further reminisce.

I think the landscape has changed significantly since say 1975 or even 1995.  Obviously NIL is the new factor, I have no clue how often that is a deciding point for recruits.

I suspect the main thing for elite players is to get to the NFL in three years.  Elite QBs aren't going to "wait their turn" ...

Rhule has a pretty good track record of putting kids from Temple and Baylor into the NFL

most of those kids weren't 4 and 5 stars

Rhule expects to recruit much better in Lincoln than in Waco

he expects to put many players in the NFL at UNL

this would enhance recruiting obviously

it will take a few seasons to see if he can meet his own expectations

I'm willing to give him a couple more seasons

I'm not wishing for a new coach.
Rhule has made some real progress this season over Frost and Riley

Run offense and defense are much better
Defense overall is much much better - hope we can keep the D-coordinator
Special teams weren't great but a big improvement

2022 lost to Northwestern and Georgia Southern - 4-8
2021 lost the last 6 games - 3-9
2019 5-7 Frost's best season
2018 lost to Troy - 4-8
2017 lost to N. Illinois - 4-8 - Riley's last season
2023 - lost last 4 games of season and missed a bowl after starting 5-3 and 3-2 in conference
