Sigh...  If only the lotto was as predictable as Iowa and Nebraska in the 4Q.

The only thing unpredictable was Iowa's normally reliable FG kicker having an awful day,  getting 2 FG's blocked and kicking 2 kickoffs out of bounds.  He was so awful he got yanked on Iowa's game winning FG for the backup kicker.

Keep in mind, Iowa's starting FG kicker just recently nailed a 53 yard game winner against NW 3 weeks ago.  He has been clutch his whole career.  It's just weird what happened today.
Drew Stevens has been reliable, but he missed, or had an extra point blocked in the final minutes of Illinois. The trajectory isn't right. Minor injuries can cause issues. Something is going on with him, whether it is a minor injury, or mental lapse. Kickers are comparable to women gymnasts in that kickers get the twisties, too.

Yeah I forgot the blocked extra point against Illinois.  There is a pattern there.  I just hope Drew Stevens does not turn into the next Trent Mossbrucker,  which is a name Hawkinole might remember.  Mossbrucker had a great freshman season as a kicker for Iowa in 2008,  then just fell apart late in the season, got pulled for Daniel Murray in the 2008 PSU game game where Murray kicked the game winning FG. Mossbrucker was never the same after that.  Got a 2nd chance in 2010 to be the kicker and got pulled after 3 games. Spent the last 2 years of his career on the bench.

I guess the rumor now is that Iowa kicker Stevens has a groin pull that was giving him fits.   The Iowa coaches had already made the decision at half time to use Meeder for short FGs and extra points.  Knowing this, solving the problem may as be as simple as Stevens getting healthy.  I don't know what this means for the CCG.  Stevens kickoffs were never returned.

I was unaware of the groin pull rumor. A groin pull would explain a lot. Injury management is not the greatest at the U of Iowa.

Chubba Purdy had two giveaways Friday and threw an interception on NU’s final offensive play in each of its final three defeats to Maryland, Wisconsin and Iowa.

This is really cool. Nebraska OL Nouili honors his stepfather on Senior Day against Iowa (usatoday.com)

Be careful wishing for a new coach.

Since Nebraska fired Bo Pelini following the 2014 season,  Iowa is 8-1 against Nebraska,  including 3 wins coming on FG's in the last minute.  Iowa also has won the Big Ten West 3 times since Pellini's firing.   Meanwhile Nebraska has not a had a winning season or a bowl game since 2016.

Nebraska has exactly one win against Wisconsin since joining the league. 2012.

Of course, Big Red avenged that loss later that season with a 70-31 beatdown in Indianapolis.

So, where does Nebbie go from here?
to the portal for a couple serviceable QBs - DUH!!!

and the coaching ranks for an O-Line coach

VS Iowa.........
Started 2 seniors on offense
O-Line Guard & Slot WR - neither were stand outs
Started 3 seniors on defense
LB, Safety, and Corner - the Corner was pretty good - obviously not all conference

played a large amount of freshmen and sophomores both sides of the ball
entire D-Line returns - they were pretty good

2024 sched - 5 of 1st 6 games at home.
Could get off to a better start.

UTEP - Lincoln
Colorado - Lincoln
Northern Iowa - Lincoln
Illinois - Lincoln
Purdue - West Lafayette
Rutgers - Lincoln
Indiana - Bloomington
Ohio State - Columbus
UCLA - Lincoln
Southern Cal - Los Angeles
Wisconsin - Lincoln
Iowa - Iowa City

I fear Nebraska may have lost it's BB status, permanently, and won't recover no matter who is coach.  You have to recruit at a high level to do well, duh, and I don't think they can today.

I'm not wishing for a new coach.
Rhule has made some real progress this season over Frost and Riley

Run offense and defense are much better
Defense overall is much much better - hope we can keep the D-coordinator
Special teams weren't great but a big improvement

2022 lost to Northwestern and Georgia Southern - 4-8
2021 lost the last 6 games - 3-9
2019 5-7 Frost's best season
2018 lost to Troy - 4-8
2017 lost to N. Illinois - 4-8 - Riley's last season
