if a cruise line doesn't think it's safe, I'm out.

Venezuela: Human rights abuses and lack of health care plague this South American nation, which has been in a political crisis since 2014. In 2019, diplomatic personnel were withdrawn from the U.S. Embassy in Caracas. Threats in the country include crime, civil unrest, kidnapping, wrongful detention and poor health infrastructure.

Yemen: Six of the nine risk factors defined by the State Department – terrorism, civil unrest, health risks, kidnapping, armed conflict and landmines – are all present in Yemen. Despite private companies offering tourist visits to the Yemeni island of Socotra, the U.S. government argues those arranging such visits “are putting tourists in danger.” Civil war and cholera are also both present throughout the country. The U.S. Embassy in Sanaa halted operations in 2015. The country has experienced a relative lull in the civil war fighting, but as peace negotiations have gotten traction, flare ups in the fighting have jeopardized progress. Most recently, the U.S. and U.K. have carried out a series of airstrikes in the country, targeting Iran-backed Houthi sites.

Other Countries to Watch

Since Jan. 1, the State Department has updated travel advisories for 17 different countries as well as for the West Bank and Gaza, adding information about specific regions or risk factors, or simply renewing an existing advisory. Travel advisory levels can change based on several factors in a nation, such as increased civil unrest, policies that affect human rights or higher risks of unlawful detention.

The largest producer of fresh eggs in the U.S. said Tuesday it had temporarily halted production at a Texas plant after bird flu was found in chickens, and officials said the virus had also been detected at a poultry facility in Michigan.

Ridgeland, Mississippi-based Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. said in a statement that approximately 1.6 million laying hens and 337,000 pullets, about 3.6% of its total flock, were destroyed after the infection, avian influenza, was found at a facility in Parmer County, Texas.

The plant is on the Texas-New Mexico border in the Texas Panhandle about 85 miles (137 kilometers) southwest of Amarillo and about 370 miles (595 kilometers) northwest of Dallas. Cal-Maine said it sells most of its eggs in the Southwestern, Southeastern, Midwestern and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.

“The Company continues to work closely with federal, state and local government officials and focused industry groups to mitigate the risk of future outbreaks and effectively manage the response,” the statement said.

you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. what are you even saying?

IDF did an air strike on an embassy compound. this is a fact. no one is disputing said fact. go online you can see plenty of videos of the destruction of the embassy compound
I can't tell it's within some embassy compound.  I'm saying I find it better to wait a while before jumping to conclusions based on what Iran or Syria is claiming.  The same is true for whatever Israel is saying too.

It may well be Israel attacked the Iranian embassy, I just don't know at this point. I don't believe either side.  The photo below is, to me, unclear, as to what was damaged.

Israel hasn’t claimed responsibility for the attack but has argued that the target was a “military building of Quds forces” — a unit of the IRGC responsible for foreign operations. “This is no consulate, and this is no embassy,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told CNN.

This is from wiki, which of course can be dubious, but we see competing claims.  Which is true?

On 1 April 2024, the Iranian consulate annex building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus was destroyed by an Israeli airstrike. Iranian ambassador Hossein Akbari alleged that the consulate building "was targeted with six missiles from Israeli F-35 warplanes".[14] Israeli officials claimed that the building was a legitimate military target as "an outpost of the Revolutionary Guards" that was disguised as a civilian consulate.[15][16]

  •  IsraelIDF spokesman Daniel Hagari told reporters that, "According to our intelligence, this is neither a consulate nor an embassy." He further added that the target struck was a "military building of Quds forces disguised as a civilian structure in Damascus."[22] Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant said that "Israel is working to make it clear to everyone who acts against us, all over the Middle East, that the price for acting against Israel will be a heavy price."[23]

Any location occupied by the enemy is a legitimate target.  Don't care if these IRGC officers were hiding under the Pope's bed.

Legally, they are not, but "international law" is really a fiction, or whatever the winners decide it is.

I'm not sure what Iran can, or will, do here, that they are not already doing.

Any complaints from the world's largest sponsor of terror are at best comical.

Sure, in a way, but Iran will attempt to use this to whip up more frenzy in its minions, if that is possible.  Such things could hinder Iran's plans a bit by taking out top leaders, but enable them to foment more terrorism down the road.  It could be counterproductive.

I expect the UN to step in and use harsh language.

If the UN has any real purpose today, I'm not seeing it.

It's interesting to me how some folks, many in fact, leap to conclusions based on confirmation bias.  They seem to think "their side" is always right and the other side always lies.  It's very akin to Ohio State and Michigan fandom.  If later information shades this in any way, they leap to making various excuses.

I still don't know the status of that building in Damascus.  Looking at google maps, it is next to a building marked Iranian embassy and another marked Canadian embassy (nothing about a consulate, which would seem a bit odd to me to have next to an embassy, but maybe so(.  I don't see any walled in compound including both buildings.  So, I just don't know at this point.  It might well be an embassy residence next to the actual embassy.

But it certainly is possible it's part of the Iranian diplomatic mission.  I doubt Israel would much care if it was.
