I'd also point that there are probably still more than a few places in the US that he might have gotten the same treatment...

We did walk around about an hour in Egypt on free time. Nobody paid any attention.  They had a McDonalds there.

I view it in terms of probability, much as was mentioned earlier.  In a foreign country, USUALLY, nearly always, nobody cares about you either way, same as here.  Some gypsies in Paris have tried to get my attention, I am better at handling that now.  And of course, I live in a very urban area, being aware of surroundings is a good idea, especially at night, this is normal stuff.

I am pretty sure, e.g., high probability, we could visit Egypt on our own and have no issues.  Brazil, that's a different story, for me, Brazil in fact is dangerous.  Parts of Mexico?  Same thing of course, I've been in a couple, wouldn't do it that way again.

A meteor could fall on my head tomorrow of course, I don't worry about that for obvious reasons.  I'm not going to live my life cloistered because of some quite low probability of being harmed or killed somewhere if I'm interested and it seems to be reasonably safe.

I wouldn't go to Lebanon or Syria, DUH, or Iran, or North Korea, I'm not anxious to go back to Brazil, but at least there we get driven around by folks who know the area.  Mexico?  Nope, not at the moment, I've been anyway.

We're headed next year to some sort of sketchy places, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Qatar, the UAE,  I forget where all else.

Ehh, I'm not sure most of those are bad. Malaysia is nice. I have heard India is quite dirty, but I haven't heard dangerous. Thailand doesn't want to kill you; they just want to $^@# you for money. Qatar and the UAE also don't want to kill you. They want to grow their "rich tourist" industry as well as their "center of international business" strategy and it's hard to do either if you get a reputation for killing rich tourists.

You didn't mention Singapore but it's known for being VERY safe as long as you don't chew gum or spit in public. Then you might get the cane.

so Israel just bombed an Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria. That embassy by the way is literally right next door to the Canadian embassy. JFC the Israeli's really don't give two fcking sh*ts about international law or the rule of law and order. Takes some SERIOUS balls to airstrike an embassy, let alone one that is right next door to the Canadians. Likely with US drones and missiles no doubt. Biden admin will do zero about this. They'll probably just sell them more weapons actually. What's that? Oh yeah, President Shits-His-Diapers just announced he wants to give them another $18 billion (around $4 billion more than he was previously asking Congress for). WWIII here we come!

Have never seen a weaker, more ineffective US leader who commands absolutely ZERO respect from other world leaders like President Shits-His-Diapers in my life. Bibi basically gives him the finger at every turn, tells him to get fkt and fk off I'll do whatever the hell I want- and President Shits-His-Diapers just takes it.

Add to that Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, and Sri Lanka, and I agree, all these places look pretty OK unless China decides, you know, ... and it starts in Seoul, so there's another flash point.

It looks like a pretty neat cruise, to us anyway, 30 days.  Unless a meteor takes me out.

Brazil is really the only country I visited that concerned me, quite a bit more than Mexico.  Brazil was crazy.

When my daughter lived in Manhattan, I walked from her place on 82nd to our hotel on 55th at night, about 11 PM.  I never felt in danger, a lot of people were out and about.  I might think about doing that again as things are today, or rather, think about not doing it.

The Israeli military told CNN it does not comment on foreign reports. However, a military spokesperson said Israel believes the target struck was a “military building of Quds forces” — a unit of the IRGC responsible for foreign operations.
“According to our intelligence, this is no consulate and this is no embassy,” Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told CNN. “I repeat, this is no consulate and this is no embassy. This is a military building of Quds forces disguised as a civilian building in Damascus.”
Four unnamed Israeli officials acknowledged that Israel carried out the attack, the New York Times reported.

FYI, I obviously don't believe the above any more than I believe whatever Iranians are claiming at this point.  Maybe it was the consulate, maybe it wasn't.

pretty much everything coming out of the state of Israel and the IDF is complete and utter bullsh*t right now....they commit atrocity after atrocity on the daily with complete impunity thanks to the backing of the US. this sounds like the exact same sh*t they say when they destroy hospitals and slaughter civilians....utter nonsense.

it was an embassy, in a nation other than the one it was attacking- located right next to the Canadian embassy by the way. and if there are military personnel there- so what? every US embassy has military personnel on it....are those "military buildings".

US is already playing damage control pledging to the Iranians they had nothing to do with it, knew nothing about it. Even though it was likely done with US weapons systems.

Make sure you get a bowl of the Taiwanese national dish, beef noodle soup. It's fantastic. I recommend seeing a temple, the Chiang Kai-Shek museum, the Sun Yat-Sen museum, and going up to the top of Taipei 101 and seeing the tuned mass damper. Unfortunately if these are day excursions you probably can't visit the night market, which is a bummer.

I think back to a couple times I walked around Shenzhen and Shanghai by myself, after visiting establishments and drinking, and thinking maybe that's not as safe as it seemed at the time. But they definitely were times that although I'm a white American, it helps to be a VERY LARGE white American.

damn that sounds so good. now I'm hungry. Asian food is a top 3 food in the world imo. I'll go Italian, Middle Eastern, and Asian- not in any order. French and Indian round out the top 5 imo.

I don't believe either side at this point, Israel or Iran.  It's possible it was a building near the Iranian embassy/consulate.  It's possible it was inside the embassy walls.

I'll await more information.  I would guess the Israelis would not have gone after an embassy building without a lot of incentive of some sort.  The blow back could get bad.

But then, I am not one to jump on one side with both feet without a LOT of reliable information.

you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. what are you even saying?

IDF did an air strike on an embassy compound. this is a fact. no one is disputing said fact. go online you can see plenty of videos of the destruction of the embassy compound and you can google map it- and it's right next door in the heart of Damascus to the....Canadian embassy. IDF just violated damn near every international law known to man and bombed an embassy in Syria order to try and assassinate high-ranking Iranian military personnel. whether there were military personnel at the embassy is immaterial...it's a fcking embassy...and every embassy has military personnel on it. can a nation bomb US embassy compounds and then claim "it's not an embassy, it's a military compound and we were trying to assassinate military targets" ummm.....hell to the fk no they can't.

there is no more information to await. it's beyond sad that US citizens are that propagandized they can't accept fact and reality that run counter to the narratives they have been propagandized and conditioned to wish to believe.

And of course the US just abstained from condemning Israel for the attack at the UN along with it's puppy dogs the UK & France.

Israel is just continuing down an insane path that makes it less safe. Iran will likely respond. And if they do, my sincere hope is the US stays out of it. That punk thug Netenyahu has been trying like hell to get the US to go to war with Iran for nearly 30 years. He might've just pulled it off.

Israel should nuke Iran.

Just stop this namby-pamby handfighting going on the last 60 years and get it over with, already.
Honestly, just figure out who wins, once and for all.  Then we can all move on with our lives.

you same some awfully stupid things, but this one takes the cake. that is a fantastically terrible idea.

yeah, just nuke Iran. great idea. that'll solve it! hey, they should also just ramp up their war crimes to the next level and continue to ethnic cleanse the Palestinians and just annex the occupied territories while we're at it.
