Yeah, but inevitable.

  • If Biden was going to seek a second term, he was going to win the nomination. No mainstream alternatives are going to primary a sitting President from their own party. Doing so would be them admitting that the last 4 years have been a failure, and no party does that.
  • Trump sucks the air out of every room, every discussion, every media outlet. Whether it's good or bad, everything, all the time, is about Trump. When Trump skipped the primary debates the story was NEVER about what the people at the debates said, or even who they were, the story was about Trump skipping the debates. Even all the coverage of Trump's legal issues was starving the other candidates of attention. So the other candidates simply suffocated due to lack of oxygen.

There was no way other than this that it would have played out.
I thought Scott, Ron D, and Vivek were the best among the challengers. I still have hope for them.

"We" clearly need to increase spending on infrastructure in this country.
yeah, no shit.

instead we have to give billions of dollars every year in aid to an already very rich country- Israel- and build a port in Gaza so aid can be delivered so people won't starve to death when we could you know- just tell Israel to knock it the fck off and let aid trucks in...what a novel concept! And who knows how many hundreds of billions to Ukraine before it's all said and done.

The Camp David Accords secured annual aid to Israel, and Egypt, as part of the agreement.

As part of the agreement, the U.S. began economic and military aid to Egypt, and political backing for its subsequent governments. From the Camp David peace accords in 1978 until 2000, the United States has subsidized Egypt's armed forces with over $38 billion worth of aid. Egypt receives about $1.3 billion annually.[17]

And if we redirected ALL foreign aid, it still would be a relative pittance.  That bridge in Cincinnati has a replacement cost nearing $3 billion, likely to go higher.

I don't have "a guy" and I don't like any poll that would have Trump OR Biden ahead.

It's just unbelievable to me that the idiots in both of the parties can't come up with someone better.
the idiots who run the Republican party tried to no avail. Trump was always going to win that primary. The idiots who run the Democratic party on the other hand are all-in on Biden, he's their guy.

think it's great news, young kids shouldn't be on social media. Texas law banning porn sites for under 18 year olds is also good if you ask me.

From what I understand in Texas they are going to make people do age verification when they go to porn sites. Not sure how you enforce that social media ban in Florida though.

that's not exactly true. we run huge deficits here and are $34 trillion in debt. we need to make every single penny spent count- and take hair cuts and trim everywhere. we flat out don't have the money to be sending to Israel or Ukraine or anyone, we just don't have it.

And we wouldn't have to cash out any infrastructure projects like that bridge in Cincinnati, we would use said public funds that should go here- but we send overseas like morons- to finance them.

Israel will have received something like $350 billion in foreign aid from the US (adjusted for inflation) since the close of WWII by the time their current MOU runs out in 2028. By far the largest of any foreign nation. Israel is a very rich highly developed nation- we don't need to be giving them aid for jack. They can buy weapons from the US with their cold hard cash if they need them. And not only do we give them aid, but they have been in the top 5 of countries we give aid virtually every year since the 1960's.

Israel receives around $4 billion a year in aid from US and that's just baseline. There is often supplemental military aid sent as they are often bombing the living sh*t out of one of their neighbors and need more money from us to buy more bombs- and things that aren't counted in that aid like grants for r&d, missile defense (DoD doesn't report those figures), loan guarantees, etc.. Oh yeah not to mention the Biden admin has been trying to get an additional $17.6 billion in aid to Israel right now as we speak.

We flat out don't have the money to be throwing in the toilet and giving away to other nations (especially ones that are rich) when we have a million and one problems at home and run $1.7 trillion deficits.

My point, simply, is that our infrastructure needs would cost a lot more than what we spend on foreign aid.  I thought that was clear in my post.

And of course, neither party would seriously cut foreign aid, nor come anywhere close to a balanced budget.  It's all some theoretical impracticable stuff.  Any actual spending solutions would guarantee the party in charge would not be for long.

Interesting. First thing I thought of - redundancy and fortification. Sound like this bridge had neither.

rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs aka Puff Daddy aka Puffy has his mansions in LA and Miami raided by the Department of Homeland Security as part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation by federal authorities. Yikes.

He's worth about a billion dollars. Diddy has had like 5 civil suites filed against him in the past few months and lot of rumors about his awful behavior in the past. He's a known rip off artist who never credited or paid producers that made hit records for him at his company Bad Boy Records- basically took all the producer/writer credits from them and propelled that success in music into a billion dollar fortune. There has always been talk about him possibly being complicit in the murder of rival rapper Tupac Shakur as well. And let's not forget he probably shot someone at a nightclub when he was dating Jennifer Lopez back in 1999 and got off scot-free.

That video of the bridge strike and collapse is terrifying.

When i saw the video of this I immediately thought of the first Sunshine Skyway Bridge strike. None of the dolphins around that new one were even in anyone's mind when the first one was designed.

The only "it could have been worse" moment is that it was at 130AM instead of having a deck full of cars.

That's going to be a long, painful recovery.

Supposedly sent out a Mayday right before striking the bridge, seems they were in immediate damge control for crap operations. National news reported they had previous accident hitting a wharf or sum such.

This from Reuters:

*A later inspection in June 2023 carried out in San Antonio in Chile found the vessel had "propulsion and auxiliary machinery" deficiencies, according to data on the public Equasis website, which provides information on ships.*

That was less than a year ago
