South Korea, Japan, maybe Taiwan (if it exists). Travel there is a beast. Probably visit family in the LA area for a break, then hit Hawaii for a bit. Break it up a little.
Taiwan is fantastic.

There are a lot of cool things to see there. Obviously some temples open to the public that are really neat. There are museums devoted to Chaing Kai-Shek and Sun Yat-Sen that are really good. As an engineer you'll want to go up to the observation deck in the Taipei 101 tower to see the tuned mass damper. And of course you'll want to check out the night market. Get yourself some stinky tofu or even an oyster omelet lol... Maybe head out there during the dragon boat races...

Culturally, Taiwan is a melting pot. Obviously there is a ton of Chinese influence, but Taiwan was conquered by the Japanese for a portion of history so there's Japanese influence. As Taiwan became an electronics powerhouse, and obviously wasn't importing workers from mainland China, they brought in a lot of people from all over Southeast Asia.

With all those "melting pot" influences, the food in Taipei is wonderful--all sorts of options. Thai, regional Chinese cuisines that are hard to find here (like Hunan), and of course you'll want to find a place for their national dish. I recall eating that one day for lunch when it was raining and it was the absolute perfect thing for that day. (I've made that recipe and it's fantastic--I've also asked Taiwanese expats I know and they confirm that recipe is legit.)

One of the places I liked near my usual hotel was a brewery, serving mostly German beers, Thai food, playing American pop music, and watching the Taiwanese Super Basketball League on the TV over the bar. Just a wild mishmash of everything in that joint.

To be honest I'd say it's a city that you can get a good run of the place in maybe 4-5 days and see quite a bit. And it's very American-friendly.

Oh, and right down the street from the brewery is Hooters Taipei...

I just put the stuff for that recipe in my Amazon cart. No way I'd find some of those ingredients here. I don't even know if there is an Asian market around here. Not many Asians here, like out by you. Not even close.

But we DO have a great Pho place. Weird.

What I worry about:

Russia moves into NATO countries, say the Baltics. Now we are in a war with Russia as a NATO member.

China decides to take Taiwan and moves on the Philippines, Guam and even Hawaii.

Iran and North Korea are helping China and Russia.

Can Japan, Australia and South Korea stand up to China? Very doubtful.

Does the US have enough power to fight on two fronts, like it did in WWII? Very doubtful.

Maybe I worry too much. Maybe not.
We would beat the rest of the world in a knock-down, drag-out fight.  But that's full-bore, bloody-nose, taking heavy losses war.

Our problem is that we're used to squirmishes "over there."  Our society is soft and would bitch about a war that increased the price of mustard by 50 cents.  Our society won't get its hands dirty and lacks buy-in.

Yeah, we know you don't give a single fk about anything Putin does.

That said, Estonia IS a NATO member. So I don't think we should signal that he can take them and we're going to stand down. Nor should we encourage him to do so, as someone recently suggested.
Yeah, no. I only care about what Putin does in relation to HOW IT AFFECTS the United States. That's it. Whether you believe him invading Ukraine in a bid to conquer them because he's a real life evil movie baddie or to stop them from pivoting away from Russia's sphere of influence and into the NATO/EU- doesn't affects the US at all. Not one motherfcking iota. So in that regard, I literally do not care.

And instead of you know, maybe NOT using our CIA to illegally overthrow a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT in Ukraine in 2014 and hand-picking the puppet government that followed said illegally overthrown DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT and also maybe NOT floating NATO-Ukraine talks since 2004 (thanks a lot W- you motherfcking retard)- there probably isn't a war today.

And hey here's an idea, maybe we DON'T use this war to launder well over 100 BILLION in US taxpayer dollars mostly to defense contractors and CROOKED AS F*CK Ukrainian politicians. Just a thought.

Yes Estonia is a NATO member- and we can think dipsh*t for brains W for that. Yeah, let's pledge American blood & treasure to protect some shithole completely useless country that strategically gains us literally less than nothing and means absolutely nothing to us. At all. GREAT fcking idea W. He was the worst President in US history, until Biden came along. How can one country be so lucky to have two giant sh*t stains not even 20 years apart. Gee, thanks god. Not to pick on Estonia, because basically every new country added to NATO since the fall of the USSR has been a useless twat that does nothing but cause us more headache and potential grief than they are worth.

And that part about Trump "encouraging him to do so" is downright laughable. But- if you watch fake news media- that's what you get. Trump said what he's been saying for years. The world needs to stop free loading off the US and pay up. He said he'd tell NATO member states to pay you're share- or he doesn't care what the hell Russia or anyone does to you. And the man has a fcking point. The free loading Euro trash can pony up or they can fck right off. This country is $34 TRILLION in debt and a good chunk of that is war. We spend over $1 TRILLION a year on the war machine for the empire. These free loading Euro trash fks can pay up or they can fk off.

Ukraine did hold out with the initial attack which was before they got any real foreign aid.  I think they could have held on but without their counterattack which regained some territory in the first year.  The second counteroffensive appears to have been a poor choice militarily.
Yeah, so none of this is actually true. Ukraine has been getting aid from the US gov't since '91. And they've been getting weapons systems and training and help building up their armed forces from the US since at least 2014.

Their counter offensives have been duds and they are no closer to retaking any territory Russia took from them since the start of the war- and they will never retake Crimea and they are bound for failure and they will lose this war. Just a matter of time. Not an if. Just a when. No amount of wasted billions of US taxpayer dollars can change that. Only thing that could change the outcome of this war is US getting directly involved and fighting for them- and that just ain't happening. No US President would sacrifice US life to protect Ukraine. You know why? Cause it ain't fcking worth it to us. Never has been, never will be. End of story. Bye bye now.

Same can be said for France, Poland, Belgium, etc.
yeah, no. France was at one point one of the worlds main super powers. They are a major country. Ukraine is literally none of those things. get back to me when any of those countries are basically a dead country that the US is propping up like a zombie. Ukraine would've ceased to exist if the US hadn't been giving going on hundreds of billions to it now going on the last couple of years. we aren't giving any country in EU that- not even close.

Yup. The EU and all of it's predecessors were all organized and built at considerable expense, as well as considerable benefit, to the American taxpayer.
yeah, no. EU doesn't benefit us at all. don't know where you're getting that bullsh*t, but it's not true. only thing in Europe that benefits the US is NATO. and it's questionable how beneficial that is anymore.
