To be fair, that happened after the election...

I'd say Florida dodged a bullet.

I used to like DeSantis, but much like #45, I find him to be not likeable anymore.

Getting past that hurdle, I like most of the policies that are in place now.

I do not like the new Constitutional carry law, for example. I believe everyone should be required to take training courses to have that right. It's one thing to be in possession in your home. Completely different animal to be out and about carrying a gun with no training.

I do not like that he changed the rules so he could run for POTUS while being Governor here. He should be Governing here and doing the job he was elected to do - FULL TIME.

In my castle, <<looks behind to make sure the wife isn't watching>> of which I am king, we don't vote for politicians. We vote for policies.

I agree 100% on the constitutional carry.  My wife and I both own guns can't stand the fact that ignorant people can now be almost anywhere with them.

Honestly don't have too much issue with HB 1557 at its core.  As I've said in previous posts, my problem is that it is totally unnecessary.  It was done as a political sideshow in Florida to score points for a national election.  And it lead to a critical fight on free speech.  Totally avoidable by a bill that had no need to exist in the first place.

Lastly- why are choosing prosecution.  As your benchmark. Do you think anyone who was at the capitol on January 6th, and who did nothing but protest, has been prosecuted? ( hint- it is a big number)

There are people who didn't trespass inside the Capitol Building and didn't destroy property, who were just protesting outside the Capitol Building, who were prosecuted? Got a source?

Lastly again- can you not admit that powerful arms of the US Government ( CIA, DOJ, FBI, FHFA ) are not fully weaponized and controlled by one tribe right now?  Trying to control online speech, media, who gets prosecuted for what and who doesn’t, who has their home raided with TV cameras ther coincidentally?

I have lots of issues. Including the efforts of the administration to control "disinformation", much of which eventually was proven at least plausible as true, if not determined correct. The efforts to control online speech and media is something I've railed against constantly.

Beyond that, I don't think there's a whole lot of efforts to weaponize prosecutions or protect people from them. After all, Menendez in NJ is part of one tribe and it's his own colleagues trying to get him to resign.

bolded part....agreed. I believe DeSantis planned on running for President basically the day Trump lost the 2020 election and everything he's done since has been calculated to boost his profile and try to win the GOP nomination for 2024.

Underlined part...not seeing a critical fight on free speech. What are you referring to?

so anyone else find this whole civil case with Trump in New York completely insane?

Not only was every cent of every loan paid back, but the preposterous idea that any bank would just give him a loan because he wrote down a made up value on a piece of paper is absolutely insane. No large commercial bank is going to give anyone a loan secured against property without hiring a 3rd party licensed appraiser. Where's the fraud?

This judge who ruled against Trump is a motherf**king RETARD by the way. Trying to use the Palm Beach County property appraisers tax assessment of $18-21 million for Mar-A-Lago as proof that Trump committed some sort of fraud. EL OH F*CKING EL. Mar-A-Lago is 20 acres on Palm Beach island and spans from Oceanfront to Intercostal. Palm Beach is only the most exclusive, expensive real estate market in oh, maybe the entire f**cking world. Mar-A-Lago is worth $1 billion right now, today. AT LEAST.

If anyone needed anymore proof they are really out to get this guy by any means necessary and bastardizing the law to do it- well, that bullshit case is proof positive of it.

How an out people who burn down pro life facilities??  Do you think they are rigorously pursued and prosecuted?
I don't think that counts as a free speech issue. I think the folks who burn down those buildings are generally bad. I clump them with the pro-life folks who shoot abortionists.

Because if you can’t admit that- I can’t take you seriously on this topic.
I suppose that word is an interesting one to me.

What the fella down in Florida seems to do is to weaponize all sorts of parts of government against folks he wants to go after. His government tried to control online speech. It used the threat of third-party lawsuits to chill minor speech in schools. But it doesn't get categorized as weaponization.

It's sort of weird. Sometimes we want crime to be illegal. But then when you can say "this is plausibly crime" it's weaponized.

(The home raiding is interesting because of course it happens to a lot of folks. Some folks here would probably cheer about. Some are mostly innocent people who go through some real unpleasantness. Cops often tip TV folks. Sometimes even walk out with empty boxes to make themselves look good)

I guess what I'm saying is, one tribe's weaponization seems to end up another's righteous pursuit of justice or whatnot. As does relatively common police practice, until it is turned on a famous pol.

Damn.  More violence in the Middle East.

My better half is in Israel right now- but took a couple day excursion to the Red Sea in Egypt.   Not sure if/ when they can return to Tel Aviv.

I hate this shit.

I've never carried a gun. I don't even own a handgun, just rifles and shotguns.  I was shocked to learn how many people I know carried guns on their person on a regular basis.  Like they're in some kind of war zone, when in reality none of them I know have even been robbed or assaulted.  I don't even worry about it.  And I've always thought that if I did carry I would always carry concealed.

One minor correction- the only time I carried a gun on my person was when my brother was making threats towards me.  Given his history or assault and violence I carried for a short time, about 2 weeks.

If I felt the need, I would not hesitate to carry and I've often thought I probably should get some kind of carry-able self defense, but then I realize the news over-blows so much shit.  Even if society breaks down due to a new pandemic or some other threat I'd feel much better with my shot guns and other long rifles.

I never carry either.  I got my CCL in Ohio a while back, and toted one around for a day or two.  It was heavy and inconvenient.  I really got the CCL to be able to carry one to the shooting range without any issues.

We don't need a CCL here any more.  I think it very important for folks who carry to understand the legal requirements involved in actually using one.

This is what most people don't get.

IF you use it, understand that you WILL be going to the cop shop, regardless of circumstance, even if you don't shoot.

If you are completely justified, you go home. If there is any doubt, you will spend at least one night in jail.
