The good news is, it's pouring rain at my house for the first time since June 21st.  We've already had 1.5" since 2 AM.

The bad news, my 16yo daughter is driving to school alone for the first time ever today.  And because it never rains here, she has almost no experience driving in the rain. BUT, she did okay and got to school fine.  Good thing it's only like 0.4 miles away.
It is all about the tires.  Knowing you- that’s been thoroughly attended to.

Lots of those roads will be very slippery. Glad she's close to home.

Yeah way slippery since it's been so long since we had any rain 'tall.  I drove the boy to middle school a few minutes after she left and it's about .5 mile further down the road, people were driving like absolute buffoons and sliding around a lot.

But 1.5" in the past 6 hours, and all the cars driving on it now, is removing the slickness.  All I can say is, Hooray for some rain!

any tire will hydroplane with enough water and enough speed

not that I'd know anything about that

drove through a thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon in Southwestern Nebraska...
old asphalt 2-lane with worn tracks and pushing the speed limit to get trough the storm east to west
best to ride the center line and stay out of the trough

True that any tire wheel hydroplane given substantial enough water.

But some tires perform way way better than others in the rain.

If you have good tires that throw the rain off, then it just becomes being smart and understanding that pavement, especially blacktop, has months and months of built-up exhaust gases that create a film, and then, when mixed with heavy rain, it can affect almost the same as black ice. So just allowing substantial distance from other vehicles, substantial distance for breaking and turning, and no sudden Lane changes, etc.

Yeah it's very common here since we get rain so infrequently.  Greasy roads are a part of life with the onset of any new rain event.

You'd think folks would drive better in it, but alas, they do not.  I blame all the the yankee transplants.

My mom had a Buick Regal from about 1991 that she barely drove and finally gave to my daughter.  I drove it back from Georgia and noticed the car was "unstable", I thought.  It had original tires, probably 12 years old, plenty of tread, but oxidized, and very poor traction.  I changed the tires for new and it handled like new.

Old tires with good tread are awful.

Nah, here in CA we have the same phenomenon. Months without rain, followed by a few hours of extreme slippery conditions when it finally does.

Definitely different than the Midwest where it rains frequently enough that you don't get that buildup.

Definitely getting a good soaking here 50 miles south of Houston.  We needed it, but a drought is very good for my business.

2. Those things need to be fixed, right? So, what do you do?

As far as raising the retirement age, that would not piss off seniors because he said he would raise the age for people under 40. Seniors are older than 40.

3. All governors have control over the state EPA - and all state agencies/departments. He didn't take control. He already had it.

I'm not going to speak to the rest of your post, but I will generally say that curriculums for K-5 should be reading, writing, math and science. Nothing more.

Disney spoke out against that idea. Why?

For starters we can't tell entire generations that they will be working a few years closer to their death beds because the previous generation (who will be enjoying earlier retirement) couldn't figure it out.

If it were up to me, marijuana would be federally legalized and taxed.  That's billions in revenue that could be put towards SS, medical, and infrastructure.

I generally agree with what you say about the K-5 curriculum.  And that was my point when I replied to HB.  Those things are what's being taught.  The other things you're hearing about are isolated or over exaggerated instances being blown up by conservative media and used as talking points by Republicans to get elected.

Disney spoke on the matter because of the industry that they run.  In that line of work, there are far more people that fall into the LGBT and whatever else spectrum.  Those employees expected Disney to speak on their behalf, and yes that was the result of overdramatic reactions to the legislation .  I understand what's in the bill.

That said, none of the above should matter at all regarding Disney.  They have a right to say whatever they want, whenever they want, about any piece of legislation or politician.  They were afforded that right under A1 of the constitution, which was confirmed by SCOTUS.

DeSantis can't handle any criticism whatsoever, so he uses his power as governor to punish them for it.  That's government overreach.  Thats big government.  That's something conservatives claim to be against, yet they support it if it falls in line with their beliefs.
