Goat BBQ is common in Mexico and South Texas, and it's delicious.

Cabrito.

What about East Dakota?

:57:
There are large swatches of western Minnesota, mostly up in the Red River country, that look just like North Dakota. And their definition of a barbecue, sadly, is the same.

In North Dakota, a barbecue is a sloppy joe, preferrably as bland as possible.
When my kids were younger, one night I decided to make them Tater Tot Hotdish. Despite it being a midwestern dish, I'd never had it (I guess it wasn't well known in Chicago), but even the oldest was <10 years old at the time, so I thought... "It's bland and boring, but it's got tater tots, and they're kids, so it should be a hit!"

Nope. Epic fail. Never tried again.

I've considered making it again with leftover smoked pulled pork, BBQ sauce instead of cream of mushroom, some cheddar cheese in there, etc... I think I could do it justice and make something decent.

I make a BBQ tater tot poutine from time to time.  Leftover smoked brisket or pulled pork, tater tots, a very small amount of BBQ sauce, and Longhorn cheddar cheese.

(Yes, I realize that this dish indeed has not even one of the required elements of true poutine.  If someone wants to vocabulary-shame me, I will accept my lumps).

The cheese and BBQ sauce combine into a gravy like substance.

I'd say it's closer to poutine than it is to a sandwich.

Now, if you took some of that mess and threw it between two pieces of bread...

@eltigrerex ? Never heard of the guy.

Although I had a dream that I once shared some Live Oak beer with him.
Funny, I had the same dream . . . *cheers

Hello old friend.

Hey, I have to tell you that I still have the Auburn bottle koozie you gave me, and I bust it out any time I'm watching an SEC game.  I will say that it mildly irritates my i s c & a aggie wife when I'm using it whilst watching the TAMU-Auburn game... :)
