Me: “why is this place in the mix of a garbled shouting match over housing/homelessness/apparently crime and gentrification?”

AH can, and is, being built in old malls and office buildings.
Where I live, not very affordable housing is being built in old mills. I’ve heard office buildings are tricky because of plumbing issues. But hopefully some American ingenuity could help that.

North DeKalb Mall gets a new name as part of redevelopment, demolition to begin later this year – Decaturish - Locally sourced news

This is more demolish and build, probably not much AH  there.  I remember when this mall opened in 1965, it was a wonder.

Why do you spend so much effort on someone whose motto is:

“ I don’t have, because you do”

And who can never present facts, nor respond in kind when facts are presented to counter his emotional rantings

And who clearly has no knowledge about the actual subject matter

And whose solution is to burn it all down

What a waste.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Entertainment value.  And to understand how some folks try and "think".

It's not about color. It's about socioeconomic class.

Which is why 50 years ago, the concern was that the richer (mostly white) people moving out of the cities was being decried because they were abandoning the neighborhoods that the poorer (mostly POC) people lived in. And why today, the concern was that the richer (mostly white) people moving back into the cities is called "gentrification" and is bad because it's pricing poorer (mostly POC) people out of neighborhoods.

Rich white people don't want to live near Jim Bob and Betty Sue in the trailer park either, even though they're white. They'd be perfectly fine living next to Jamaal who has a nice tech job and Kalisha who is a loan officer at the local bank.
I agree.  Jim Bob and Betty Sue don't look like rich white people, either.

Yeah, but I want solutions, and this is not a solution:

Or, you know, if such a high % of the population can't afford to buy or rent a place to live start burning shit down.

Not even close.

What do "rich" white people look like?

But first we need to define rich. Maybe we already did.

Ah.
Here we are.
Always letting your hatred of me to cloud your eyes.
I never once said that was my solution, just that I'm finding it more and more likely.  As in don't be surprised when it happens.

I notice when folks do "burn S---- down" it often is their own neighborhoods, and the outcome is not good for anyone, other than looters.

It's not all going to be AH.

The building needs to be in foreclosure, and the bank needs to cut a deal with a new buyer to get itself out from under said foreclosure. Banks cannot keep/sit on properties.

I learned a lot about receivership from 2008-2012.

@Honestbuckeye surely can tell us more about this.

And the data once again show it is not more and more likely due to homelessness.  But, when feelings supplant data, one can assert anything.

It doesn't have to.

There are solutions.

Most of the solutions here involve shrugging and ragging on me.  Useful.
