if I were in charge of a hotel chain.......

I'd install chargers for the road warriors.
Perhaps for a small fee at first to help pay for the initial cost

there is a new Hilton in downtown Des Moines with 2 chargers out front
Don't go into work anymore, but when a company I worked for installed chargers for those who had EV cars, I asked when are they installing gas pumps for me to get some free gas. Didn't go over well.

LOL. I don't know what it was like when they were first installed, but my work has EV chargers in the parking garage, and they are NOT providing "free" electricity paid for by the company. They are commercial chargers.

So does that mean a 3rd party charges for the connection and electricity?

My company has vast parking lots full of solar panels installed on the roofs of covered parking, and free electricity for charging of employees' EVs that comes directly from the solar arrays.

Lots of that electricity also goes to supplying the buildings themselves. Company goal to be 75% renewable electricity from our own grounds/facilities by 2030 and 100% by 2040.

Of note: this campus is not owned by us. We have space within the campus, and the parking garage is operated by the overall campus. I know that there are some limits (i.e. only our employees can park in THAT portion of the garage). So I don't know who actually installed the chargers and what the official agreements are.

But I know that I've talked to coworkers who are EV owners and the chargers aren't free to the user.

I know lots and lots of people on fixed incomes who are NOT better off, and it has a whole lot to do with #46 and the irresponsible policies.
Well that isn't the standard question, now is it? :)

(I assume with the passage of time, people on fixed incomes will always be worse off, as deflation isn't ever really a thing. But if people see all this through that lens, I'll leave them to it)

Anchor Brewing has shut down.

https://www.beervanablog.com/beervana/2023/7/12/anchor-brewing-1896-2023

Often described as the oldest operating "craft brewery" in America, and absolutely one of the ones that kicked off the craft movement when Fritz Maytag took it over and started brewing "steam beer", it's one that I am sad to see go.

Granted, I feel my own pang of guilt, because while I'm very sad to see it gone, it's not like I can even remember the last time I've bought an Anchor beer. I think I might have bought a big bottle of Christmas Ale a few years back, but you probably have to go several years farther since I've had Anchor Steam. So I guess I was part of the problem.

But it's still sad as hell.
Sad day, but they had to walk so others could run.

They had a tasting room in my hometown. Never went, but always seemed like an interesting stop.

If I remember correctly it's pretty pricey.  Like $12 on the East Coast for a six pack.
A decade of Victory over Penn State.

All in since 1969

Decades ago I'd watch Wall Street Week on PBS every Friday evening seeking some investment advice worth nothing.  I chuckled every time someone would say "We're in a time of increasing market uncertainty" and then weasle words to that effect.  One guyu was constantly bearish as I recall, two other guests were the reverse.  Then I started reading "The Value Line" for advice and rankings, and that actually wasn't awful, I learned a bit, but in reality it wasn't providing any deep unique insights either.  I didn't have enough money at the time to invest much at all fortuntaly, but I kind of learned not to listen to "experts".  I figured the real experts, if any exist, aren't on TV.

Opinion: It’s about the economy, and Biden’s team knows it | CNN

This is a pretty lame "opinion" in my view, basically saying politicians like to shape opinions on the economy, duh.

After two years of painfully high prices, inflation in the United States has reached its lowest point in more than two years — 3% in June compared with 12 months earlier — a sign that the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes have steadily slowed price increases across the economy.

The inflation figure the government reported Wednesday was down sharply from a 4% annual rate in May, though still above the Fed’s 2% target rate. Over the past 12 months, gas prices have dropped, grocery costs have risen more slowly and used cars have become less expensive. From May to June, overall prices rose 0.2%, up from just 0.1% in the previous month but still comparatively mild.

At the same time, some underlying inflation pressures remain high and a nagging concern for the Fed, which is all but certain to increase its key interest rate again when it meets in two weeks. The Fed has raised its benchmark rate by a substantial 5 percentage points since March 2022, the steepest pace of increases in four decades. Its expected hike this month will follow the central bank’s decision to pause its rate increases last month after 10 consecutive hikes.

I guess that is good news. However, all they are saying is that that the rate of prices going up is slower than it has been. That doesn't mean that prices have come down, just that they are not going up as fast as they were. This is nothing but spin, trying to put lipstick on a pig. Consumer prices are still much higher than they were 3 years ago and are not coming down anytime soon.

Prices overall won't come down, barring economic calamity, that isn't the goal of the Fed.  Some inflation is good, generally, the Fed likes the 2% figure.

The reason it's still not a great result at 3% is that the comparison is a year ago when inflation was quite high.  The Fed is going to tighten more because they view it as too high.

A lot of the lower inflation figures relate to energy costs which of course had spiked a year or so back.  $5 gas wasn't sustainable.  So that set a figure high since it runs all through the economy, and now gas is more like $3.50, which is a long term gasoline price adjusted for inflation, on average.
